We stayed on June 19 after a first attempt made the previous day and failed due to problems with parking. This time we leave the car at the Lupo parking lot. 10 euros absolutely well spent because close to the center and for about 5 hours of visit. I would not recommend a visit to the ancient theater because after seeing Taormina this leaves a little disappointed. Beautiful monastery of the Benedictines and the church of St. Nicholas the arena with the suggestive internal sundial. Finally, it is worth walking along Via Crociferi dotted with baroque churches to leave you speechless. Discounted a passage to the cathedral, elephant fountain and fish market

A maximum of one day is more than enough to visit Catania. The town is run down and very very dirty, with taggs everywhere. Only a small part of the city can be seen in the area of the elephant fountain, but nothing is maintained or repainted. I have never visited such an unpleasant city. The Roman theater is ridiculous for the price of entry. It is best to go to Taormina. Go your way. I will never go back there! I don't understand the glowing reviews about this filthy city.

After visited Palermo, we visited Catania. It was a lovely surprise to see the beautiful city centre starting from the Cathedral and going to the busy nice streets Via Etna . Full of nice shops both sides, clean and well kept.

The beauty of Catania is how compact the central, historic, part of the city is. You can visit most of the major attractions from Piazza Duomo and the streets that run off of it – Via Etna and Via Vittorio Emanuele II.

During our stroll in Catania, there were many historical remains found in town including churches, public squares, ruins and buildings. You could spend a day's time to explore the area. Recommended.

Historical centre is filthy, some roads stinks and lots of ‘strange’ shops. I would spend bit more time elsewhere Etina for example.
Catedrale Sant’Agata is stunning for its paints and details.

Had last been to Catania about 30 years ago and wanted to return to see how much it had changed. It hasn't. While i enjoyed walking around seeing places i hadn't seen in a long time, walking around to city and seeing the important sights can be done in a half day.

There is so much to see . The train is elevated and the arches are so unique . The fish market is huge but be prepared as it does smell like fish . The streets are washed down with a detergent and street sweeper after the market closes . The umbrellas are so unique and makes so many great photos . Sit at one of the bars below them and have a Spritz like I did .,

During our short visit to Catania we could see essentially the Piazza del Duomo with its buildings and the Point of Sale area. The first thing that strikes is the “dark” color of the city with the use of lava stone but also with the powder coming from Etna.
