We made a spontaneous decision to trek up Tavolara - and it was one of the best things we have done in numerous trips to Sardinia. contact Stefano (details from the Thinking Sardinia website) who has many other well deserved recommendations here and who organises and guides the trek and will be your guide if you are English speaking. He didn’t disappoint - he was confident with the climbing, very knowledgable about the geology and natural History and charmed and encouraged my niece right to the top with very focussed attention as she was ready to give up after about 2 hours trekking. I travelled with my wife and three kids 17, 15 and 13. We are pretty fit but regular folk but It’s a pretty tough trek if you don’t do it often and there are a few technical sections using via Ferrata, fixed ropes and even a 50m belay down one section which might be one of the toughest things you do all day if you’ve not done it before. It’s easy and almost effortless but takes some confidence to just lean back at the top. You may even see wild mountain goats, snakes (not poisonous) and some unique almond plants (we did). Brilliant day out and exhilarating. Can’t thank Stefano enough. Plan to go canyoning with him next year. BTW We paid on the ferry boat to the island but you can also pay on line

If you like adventure, this is what you are looking for. Pro equipment in very good condition, and a top class instructor. Very kind, and knows what he is doing. Make sure to bring water and snacks

Lots of sales in the shops though seems everything closes for long periods. You need to know basic Italian as most people we spoke too had only little English. We cheaply hired a SUV which allowed us to explore the local hills and beaches. It was a pleasure to visit and we didn’t ever feel that we were in a tourist area.

I can strongly recommend Stefano and his day of canyoning! It was with big smiles on all our faces at the end of the day as we had enjoyed a day canyoning through Rio Pitrisconi. The day offered excitement, laughs and lots of beautiful landscapes as we made our way through the river. Stefano is very passionate about Italy and the region and was also very keen to give us tips on where to go, in addition he offered a big dose of Italian charm and conducted the trip in a very safe way. Again, if you ever thought about doing canyoning, I strongly recommend Stefano. Daniel & Anna
