in order to get there, you would need to jump on the boat that sail from Porto San Paolo marina.. tickets are available in the ticket purchase section on the right.. once you're there, you may enjoy a good food in the restaurant, sardinian style of course or just go for hiking, in case you're freediver/snorkeler I'd recommend to walk across the island and straight under the mountain there is a beach, almost empty, clean water and pretty deep too. a lot of sealife there.

The island of almost six square kilometers has only one inhabitant: an old fisherman in his nineties who lives there all year round. In summer there are two restaurants in the small strip of non-mountainous land. For the rest it looks like a majestic limestone massif overlooking the sea. In particular, the part facing San Teodoro has high walls overlooking the sea with caves, in one of which fishermen have placed a small statue of the Madonna. We almost circumnavigated it in its entirety with a tour that started from Olbia. Around the island there are some very nice places for snorkelling.

We took a boat at 1030am and returned at 130pm. Its a short 20 minute trip to the island from the port. The ticket office is in the car park. It was 8 euro per person return.

Only part of the island is accessible as the rest is protected. I wanted to go swimming/snorkelling but there was a lot of jelly fish washed up because of the winds. In the right conditions it would be like a little heaven with so many little coves to bathe in. The water is crystal. I do note this is excellent for diving.

if you want to ascend the top of the mountain you are meant to organise it in advance with a local guide as it is protected.

The restaurant at the landing stage is excellent. Stick to the paths as they are conserving the beach dunes and please take your rubbish home with you.

During a recent holiday in San Teodoro you can see Tavolara, which has a great prescence in the distance, so we decided to take a 15 minute car journey to Porto San Paolo to get a boat over to the Island.
Tickets are available at a kiosk right next to the car park and they travel over every hour (peak season). The journey to the island takes about 20 minutes.
The scenery is amazing and the main part of the island looks really imposing. There is a path that takes you all around one end of the island, which includes two beaches with crystal clear waters, so these are great for sunbathing if you want to.
There is a restauant and a kiosk selling drinks and snacks as you get off the boat.
I would highly recommend taking a trip over if you are in the area.

We took the ferry from porto san paulo. It was a beautiful beach, so natural virtually no buildings. Go early to find parking and to rent chairs on the beach. You can have lunch there. Bring your snorkel.

There's only one landing stage, with four restaurants and coffee bars. Walk left over the dunes ( stick to the fenced paths!) for about 1km to the westerly point - great beaches and lovely snorkelling waters. You can get whatever lunch you want in the cafes. Just remember that the return boats stop between 13.00 and 15.15

99.9% of the people take the boat and stay on the beach. Do you know that you can go on the top? Just need to walk IF you have good capabilities for a pretty hard walk (3 to 4 hours - 350 to 500 m. of tough elevation). But this is so so so nice! Once again: Pretty tough but amazing. How to proceed: Wikiloc to find the description and maps.me to get it on your mobile. PS: It sounds (It is!) sometimes like a via ferrata.
