Wild beach, crystal clear sea, expensive parking
Wild and fairly long beach, crystal clear sea and Caribbean colors. Very nice view of the island of Tavolara. Aspects to improve: the chemical toilets are located near the car park and I found them very dirty, the paid parking (1.50 € per hour) is definitely expensive and without the possibility of choosing a day ticket.

Great beach with a nice view.
Yes it’s busy in august. Every single beach is busy. This is a nice beach that has some shade to stake out your own spot and loungers for a fee. Calm and shallow water. Once you wade out far enough you can definitely have a nice swim. Parking along the street is free. There are two lots that are pay by hour but were full by 11. There is a shower at the lot closer to the beach entrance that’s 1 euro. Convenient when you’re walking back to your car. Not sure about bathrooms on the beach. There is a cafe/bar.

Slim Crowds on a Cold Day
If you come to Sardinia for the beach, this is a good choice as it is easy to get to from town. It was cold on the day we were in the area so there were not many people around. But I imagined crowds on a sunny summer day, people wanting to get away from the heat.

One of the most beautiful beaches we visited in Costa Esmeralda. Transparent and crystalline waters.
It is not overcrowded, since it is not in the thousands of recommendations on the internet.
It has paid parking €2.5 for the first hour and €1.5 for the following hours.

Porto Istana beach is simply beautiful and ideal for families with children. The water is shallow and spectacular, perfect for the little ones to play safely. However, there is a sore point regarding parking, which costs €18, and the price of the kiosk on the beach, where I paid €12 for 3 white magnums. Despite these negative aspects, the beauty and tranquility of Porto Istana still makes for a wonderful experience.

Yes it’s very busy but most of the beaches all over the island are it’s what people come for! We parked easily, preferring to pay as it was very reasonable about 1€ per hour ish but there is free parking on the road if you wish.
We skipped the first beach as that is crowded and walked round to the next beach which is slightly whiter sand and more space but you can even keep going again and always find somewhere. We visited a couple times as it’s only 15 mins from the airport so great for the last day and yes people do get close but not on top of you it’s worth it for the lovely clear water, very calm sea and a relax

We returned to this beach after having been there in 2017 and it impressed us a lot: Panorama definitely beautiful, transparent water, white sand, spectacular colors BUT we found an unlivable beach situation. Bathroom equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, there is not great availability since many are booked for the whole season, very close to each other, price of 40 € for the whole day, you had to fight the shade with the neighbor, zero services (showers and bathrooms were in the parking lot, both parking (1.50 € per hour) and use of the services). The free beach was practically stormed, rude people who also placed themselves in the areas of passage and access to the beach and even with camp-style umbrellas in front of the paid beach area. There is a bar with very little offer and everything packaged.
I don't think we're coming back, reluctantly.

The beach itself is beautiful. We drove there and parked by the street. We arrived at 10 and it was already quite many people and parked cars. On the way down to the beach there were a lot of different people trying to sell you things like bikinis, umbrellas and more. At the beach we wanted to rent chairs and an umbrella, tried to get these in the front row of the beach but they were reserved for several months (!) so we got chairs in the back. They charged us 50 euros for two chairs (good chairs) and an umbrella. Quite expensive but we really wanted this for the whole day.
It was very busy and some people even laid on their towels in the pathway down to the water! For lunch we had pizza at the diner on the beach which was okay. Staff was very friendly! Overall 3/5, too busy for us and too few options for food and toilets were not nice.
Picture is from 10 am.

The beach is beautiful but should be made to a limited number or reduced the space dedicated to establishments / hotels. In addition, the municipality should confine and protect the dunes and flora, people camping in the dunes that leave garbage. That's too bad.

We went here with my family in the morning (9.45) finding parking in the free spaces on the beach. 5 minutes walk and you reach the beach. Quite large by Sardinian standards. Not very crowded. Shallow green sea. Not very low like other beaches but it's more than good for even small children. The kiosk has a positive note: after a whole day on the beach I ordered an aperitif there. Spending in line with the other beaches 10 euros for a Negroni but this done to perfection. Quality ingredients. To be appreciated. Considering everything, absolutely recommended!

The water was cloudy, a greenish color without any trace of blue, turquoise, or even transparency. The beach, very crowded, was dirty, with stagnant water standing on the sand, and the smell was unbearable. Paid parking nearby.

This is no doubt a lovely beach, as the saying goes ‘you can’t keep a good thing down’. My visit was just after peak season but it was so crowded on Sept 9th I would hate to think what it would be like in July-August. I will not return during my 11 night visit to the area.
Advise you go to south end of beach where it is less busy and there’s a nice cafe/bar. Nice without the crowds but so many nicer places to spend a day.

The beach is great: clear and calm water, you can see little fishes . However is a very small beach and the rented chairs occupy a large space on the sand. Moreover the chairs need to be reserved in advance and as a tourist that is not an information easy to find.
