First stop was Pedres castle, built on a hill about 10k from the city and now overlooking Olbia airport. It's a fairly simple route from the city and there is a large car park. The last 500m of the road are a bit dodgy so just take care. This is a thirteenth century Pisan castle on a steep hill with commanding views. Very little is left other than one tower but there are traces of other buildings and walls within the forest surrounding the castle. The route up is actually quite pleasant, through the forest and follow the stone steps, taking 5-10 minutes. It was still sweaty work though! We watched several planes arriving or departing from the airport and just enjoyed the views from the peak. We could see our next stop, a megalithic tomb, in the woods nearby.

A short steep hike will bring you to one of the greatest view in the area, definitely worth the trip, you won't regret it

You have to get away from the regular road, the drive over there is a bit bumpy, Yet there is a nice parking space available . There are some cabines available as well, but nobody around. It is all free to go all the way up, a good climb. The first part is a nice simple walk way. If you go further up, it is a bit harder, but even our 5-year old did it and had fun doing so. Climbing the high stairs. When you reach the top, you can visit the ruin, have great views of the surroundings. We were the only visitors, so incredibly quiet. Our little ones also enjoyed watching the lizards. you can see them running aound everywhere.

It's a bit off the beaten track and "road" to it is a potholed track at the last mile or so. There is a parking area and pathways for walking. There are a lot of steps, and quite uneven most of them, so great care needed especially descending. There are some great views from the top, although there is no access to the ruined tower.

Sat Nav and google maps got it wrong! Fortunately it was within sight so found my way there.
Lots of steps so unfit beware.
There is nothing around this monument but the views of surrounding countryside and landing aircraft are worth seeing
An hour is about right for a visit
There is some sort of ticket officer near the car park but as it was low season no attendant so it was a freebie.
Would I do it again no. Would I recommend doing it yes.

I'd google and make sure you have the right address the castle is located near the airport we ended up 20minute away using the address listed. Hopefully it will get changed soon.
Castle wise it's not that exciting mile ish off road required in the car (nothing too bad) then a good set of stairs upto the ruins. As mentioned you'll need good shoes on was very slippy in the wet.
I'd go for the view from the top more than anything castle related it's covered in graffiti and was a bit of a let down.
Limited information regarding history and broken glass, exposed electrics generally a ruin in the modern sense too!

If you love ruins then go for it. Make sure to have sturdy shoes as the climb is long and it all steps are stable. There isn't much left of the small castle, just some walls and most of the tower, never the less, it had its charm. We went with our toddler on our back....Would not recommend a visit on a really windy day. When we climbed it was abut windy but the wind picked up and it was almost difficult to climb down. Great views of the country side and not too far on the parking lot. No toilet facilities nearby, only accesible by car. About 700 meters further down the road is another Tomba Dei Giganti.

There is no charge for an archaeological site which can be reached after a short walk, leaving the car in the car park. From the top there is a beautiful view. If history fascinates you, this place is for you.
