If you want to discover Sardinian costumes, traditions, bread, jewellery you can't miss this very interesting ethnographic museum. It has been completely renovated, with noew pictures and videos, and it really shows the treasures of this beautiful island.

Well, it was a splendid idea to make a stop in Nouro and visit this museum, though we had no expectations. Anyway, what attracted me was the fact that this museum also has a national clothing and jewelry exposition, together with everything else, that was why I actually went there. However, to my surprise, museum has what to show, such as dioramas about occupations of Sardinian people and their home interiors. Additionally, what I thoroughly enjoyed was the room, dedicated to bread, where one can be found in all imaginable forms and conditions! Moreover, there shown bread, baked in 1978 jr something, which is impressive).
To add, it is jewelry pieces that were shown in one of the rooms I found very attractive, since I would love to wear something like those myself. And the most interesting fact is that you can buy almost the same hand-made earrings for instance, today, as I found similar-looking items in one of the shops!
To make a long story short, I recommend this museum, especially to people who are interested in history, culture of Sardinia and especially in bread!
The ticket costs 5 euros and audio guide 2 euros (you can take 1 guide for 2 persons).

I really enjoyed our visit to this museum. Inside the information is only in italian, but you can get an english translation on paper for yourself. I especially enjoyed the room with the fantastic breads and the popular costumes section.
There was a photography exhibition in the inner court as well - very captivating!

The Sardinian Ethnographic Museum (Italian: Istituto Etnografico della Sardegna), is an ethnographic museum in Nuoro, Sardinia. Its goal is to display the traditional life of the region. The museum building was built between the 1950s and the 1960s .
The museum exhibits show all aspects of the material culture of the traditional Sardinian including clothes, jewels, weapons, masks, traditional musical instruments, work and domestic tools. The collection includes over 8000 items, most of them belonging to the period between the end of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century.
One pf the most interesting exhibits is about the hundreds types of bread.

The museum has been recently renovated and the part I visited seems now to be called the 'Museo del Costume'. The Sardinian costumes were the most interesting to me having read the book 'Sea and Sardinia' by D.H. Lawrence in which he describes people's clothes so I was keen to see what he meant since nobody wears such clothes any more - except on festival days. The collection of costumes are impressive, but I don't think enough space is given over to them. There is also an extensive collection of fabrics, and jewellery. The rest of the museum provides an interesting historical description of Sardinian life with films (e.g. of bread making) and photos (in Italian but English language leaflets are available). We did not find the collection of masks. The cost was € 5 per person. Free parking is available (GPS 40.3172182, 9.335294).

Highlight of the town has over 7000 items of local crafts and costumes. Incredible arts and crafts and bread artisan ship. We loved the Travolta degli antichi, an Alladin’s cave of gourmet treats especially the almond and honey biscuits.
