Quite amazing
Sep 2019
We walked here from the central city.
This cemetery is huge and has an amazing collection of funerary architecture. It is quite amazing and we found it interesting.
You can continue on to walk through the pleasant gardens which are adjacent to the cemetery, and then on to the large cathedral of Bonaria. All three sites worth some time and should be done at the same time.

What a bizarre place.
May 2019 • Couples
We walked from town to visit this cemetery as we had heard it was quite interesting. Well it certainly is. Sure it is a graveyard but it is really quite eye opening. Some of the family and individual tombs are huge and very elaborate indeed.
Overall is it quite dilapidated in parts and some of the grave stones have fallen over and broken. It is no longer a functioning cemetery.
We tried to get up to the top tier to see the vast monuments there but sea gulls were nesting and we actually got attacked and beat a very hasty retreat!!!
If you visit the city it is worth spending an hour or so here. If you ask in the office you can get a handout telling you about the history of the cemetery.

"Monumental Sculptures"
Nov 2018 • Solo
I highly recommend a visit to the cemetery of Bonario to artists or anyone interested in sculpture. It is full of carved stones and bronze sculptures. It is at the base of the hill very close to the Church of Bonario. You can easily get there by bus from piazza matteotti in central Cagliari. I recommend checking the website for opening hours as it is only open part of the day.

Historic yet current
Jun 2018 • Couples
This is a huge place; perhaps not as dramatic as the one in Genoa, but still with a great presence. Very current with local families and military associations. Some incredible and heart rending statues. Sweets dropped by visitors at the base of a young child’s monument.

Peace among the tombs
May 2016 • Solo
It was interesting and melancholic. Beautiful and tender sculptures and epitaphs, mostly made or written in the nineteenth century. History and hopes and promises sleep here, not only bones.

It's a nice walk to have on a Sunday. This cemetery will take you back to the 19th century with its statues and monumental tombs.

R.I.P.? Why not, if for a little while

People usually don't get that far away from the centre, bus this place is really worth a visit. The cemetery is very old and has many interesting and beautiful monuments inside. You can take Linea 5 from Via Roma of Line 30,31 from via Roma or Piazza Matteotti. Linea 5 takes you to Santuario di Bonaria. CImitero Monuemntale is just around the corner. If you take Line 30 or Linea 31, you shall walk ~300 metres to the entrance. There are a couple of entrances to the cemetery. One is right behind the corner of Santuario di Bonaria. You should use this one if you take Linea 5. The other one is in Viale Cimitero. You should take Linea 30 or 31 ant get off the bus when you see a huge white wall. There are a few gates in that wall and those gates take you to the cemetery.
