This part of Cagliari is where the Archaeological museum is located. The many wonderful small streets to explore. Fun places to have lunch, dinner, or drinks. Walking is one of the best things to do while you're in Cagliari...make sure you include the Centro Storico.

Narrow streets with even narrower, or non-existent pavements. Drivers mostly aware/forgiving of pedestrians. The "centre" is divided into several distinct areas; Maritime, Castello, Villanova and Stampace. The Maritime area is nearest the port and has most of the restaurants. The gradient of the streets increases the further away from the sea. The Castello region is on top of the hill and is surrounded by ramparts. Very narrow streets and hardly any traffic. Unfortunately one of the main bastions overlooking the city was closed for refurbishment as it looked like it could be a great place to sit and people watch in the evening. Below the ramparts is Villanova which looks like it used to be quite run down but is now being colonised by artists and there are a couple of really attractive streets. Lastly, there is Stampace which has grander buildings and wider streets but is the least interesting area in my opinion apart from the Roman Amphitheatre which looks like it is going to be closed for considerable time. There's a fair amount of graffiti and dirt around but the good bits more than compensate for this. Be aware that the summer season looks like it doesn't really get going until mid June so if you go in May expect to have the place to yourself and many places won't be open yet.

Adorable town! The central area is a true must! You need to see the museums (Arsenale), the two famous towers (St. Pancrazio and Elephante), the Cathderal, the palace, the tiny narrow streets, the charming piazzas with lovely cafes... you may as well enjoy the terracote nuances of the old facades and the details from Art Nouveau in certain areas around Via Roma, down in Marina... A wonderful Mediterranean town!

Cagliari is a great place to wander. It has an interesting and picturesque old town. Lots of old buildings, churches and alleyways to enjoy.

We found nothing interesting in the historic areas of Cagliari. A big disappointment after reading the reviews here. Yes, shopping, yes older buildings, yes some monuments. No, nothing really picturesque or worth a trip, compared to so many other small and large towns in Italy.

We spend every evening of our holiday in the historic centre. It's amazing to walk around and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere. You can easily find lot's of restaurants. For shopping, the main streets Via Giuseppe Manno and Via Giuseppe Garibaldi are great.

Much like Venice, it is a fabulous area to just walk around and explore. Make sure you have your walking shoes. It gets very hilly, very fast.

Centro Storico Cagliari is the best part of town. A lot of narrow streets with good bars and restaurants.

Arcaded streets contain a variety of shops and restaurants that are overlooked by the old city walls. Some excellent museums. Steep walk to top of town is rewarded by magnificent views.
