Very beautiful Sanctuary and Basilica!
Aug 2020
The Sanctuary is small and really beautiful, Gothic Aragonese in style. You are immediately attracted by the statue of Our Lady of Bonaria, which arrived in Sardinia in a very adventurous way in 1370. There is a special atmosphere in the Sanctuary. The Basilica was built in 1704 and is used on Saturdays and Sundays and for special events. The location is perfect to enjoy a great view.

Impressive
Sep 2019
The Sanctuary and Cathedral of Bonaria is impressive.
We walked here from the central city, and visited the massive cemetery first, then walked up the hill through the gardens, and came out behind the cathedral.
Having looked at the cathedral and sanctuary we walked out to the waterfront, then walked back to the city along the boardwalk. A nice walk.
The cemetery, gardens and cathedral are all worth visiting.

Worth the visit
Apr 2019 • Couples
We walked to it from the centre of the city. By the way we discovered in this way that restaurants and shops on the way become cheaper as one moves away from the city centre. The cathedral is massive and very attractive inside. There are gardens and I think a cemetry adjoining that we did not visit. The place is at some height so the views of the sea and city are good

Large interesting landmark.
May 2019 • Couples
To the east of the city on a small hill stands this basilica. It is a really imposing while limestone block building and really plain from the outside. Inside the basilica main “hall” is vast as you would expect. It has a large atlas comprising 4 green marble columns with a gold pergola topped with gold angels. At the rear of the altar is a bright modern painting. There are 2 large paintings, one on each side. The chandeliers down each side are impressive. Despite this the overall effect is one of “plainness”.
The small side chapel, is actually quite large and is more traditional. The stations of the cross are carved from wooden blocks. There is a neat painting covering the arched roof above the altar.

Another European Historic Church
Nov 2018 • Couples
This one contains a statue of the Virgin Mary which by miracle saved a ship in the 1400's then washed ashore. Thus it is very important to this city. I saw it as part of a city wide tour. I have seen many historic churches and cathedrals in Europe so I am rating it as average. Beautiful view from the front lawn. Takes about 45 minutes to tour. Free with donations appreciated.

Spectacular view of the Cagliari
Sep 2018 • Solo
From the hill there is a spectacular view of the Cagliari and cimitero. You can take a bus PQ, PF or Zeus 5 (directly stopping at the top) still in walking distance from the marina, around 10-15 minutes. The actual sanctuary is the smaller church on the side, while the largest church was only built in the 18th century in neoclassic style.

Spectacular views appear when you visit Basilica di Bonaria. Inside it's as beautiful and on the outside. Recommend to visit the park next to it also.

Away from the old town
May 2018 • Couples
This is an interesting old church that has been added to over the centuries. Don't miss the oldest part, which is a little hidden away to the left of the main entrance.

Also great panoramic views from outside.

Our tour guide took us here and told us about the history and miracle of the Basilica and how special it is to the people. It is breathtaking in its simplicity and was a highlight of our tour. Not to be missed!!

Very interesting

A must see on your visit to Cagliari. Very interesting, especially the story of the statue of the Virgin. The gift shop was brilliant. it's right next door to the cemetery which is also of interest and worth a visit. Thoroughly enjoyable.
