The Sanctuary is small and really beautiful, Gothic Aragonese in style. You are immediately attracted by the statue of Our Lady of Bonaria, which arrived in Sardinia in a very adventurous way in 1370. There is a special atmosphere in the Sanctuary. The Basilica was built in 1704 and is used on Saturdays and Sundays and for special events. The location is perfect to enjoy a great view.

My wife and I have seen a lot of Cathedrals and this is one of the best. It is not the largest but they went all out in the design. It is hard to describe and has to be seen. If I had the time I would like to know how they were able to build such a beautiful Cathedral on top of the hill which was started in the 1300's..

I love this church, I was converted, had my first communion, got married here and baptised my first son here. This is not because it's local, it's because it's the best, it is a wonderful piece of architecture, the place itself, feels powerful significance in the history of the island and it's the church that the Pope comes to visit when he comes to Sardinia. A must see for all visitors to Sardinia. Plus the priests are incredibly welcoming.

This monument is not in the celebrated district of Castello. However, it is worth a visit: nice church, interesting museum, good souvenir shop. You can walk from the port - it's very easy and not far away, or take Linea 5, Linea 31 or Linea 30. Linea 5 takes you in front of the church. If you ride Linea 30 or Linea 31, you'll have to walk ~300 metres.

The sanctuary sits on top of a long and wide staircase, it has a lovely facade and it will surprise you on the inside, with an unusual layout (I won't say more). It was build after a shipwreck brought to shore a wooden box containing a dark skinned Madonna. It is a large church which differentiates itself from the many others in Cagliari and offers such a airy space to rest, on its staircase, that many locals make it the destination of their weekend stroll. Never too busy though.

This Basilica is the main attraction you have to visit in Cagliari, even if you´re not religious, like we aren´t. It´s not a “rich church”, as usual, but with,as most, a legend on his Foundation, related to a catalan merchant ship (behind the altar you can see a mural that refers to it).
What we found really interesting was the sanctuary, quite lovely, close to the Basilica with a lovely pátio spanish style, where you can rest.

The site gives you a view of the sea and the port. Nice church, overlooking the sea, from there you can have a nice walk to the harbor and the via Roma.

went here because rated 1 on things to do but couldn't see why. Church is quite attractive from the outside but not inside. Walked back through the cemetery which also wasn't very appealing

The Sanctuary and Cathedral of Bonaria is impressive.
We walked here from the central city, and visited the massive cemetery first, then walked up the hill through the gardens, and came out behind the cathedral.
Having looked at the cathedral and sanctuary we walked out to the waterfront, then walked back to the city along the boardwalk. A nice walk.
The cemetery, gardens and cathedral are all worth visiting.

This is an interesting old church that has been added to over the centuries. Don't miss the oldest part, which is a little hidden away to the left of the main entrance.
Also great panoramic views from outside.
