This lovely paleochristian church even hosts the catacombs. With a very peculiar style, it is nowadays open.

The Basilica of San Saturnino is the oldest in Cagliari. It was founded in the VI century on the supposed site of the martyrdom of San Saturnino, the profile saint of Cagliari. However, looking at the church from the front side, I experienced cognitive dissonance. Quite a modern church with a nice glazed facade. The riddle is simple. The oldest parts of the church are not at the entrance - these are the side aisles and the apse. The presence of the new part is probably explained by the hit of Allied bombs during the Second World War. Catholic sanctity did not protect against "Liberators" and "Flying Fortresses". Around the basilica there is an old necropolis on which archaeological excavations are still being conducted. Look inside nothing but a few photos.
