This really is a very special beautiful place and sadly did not stay here.
We tried to find something but were booking late. We stayed in Sassari and drove here. Absolutely stunning town definitely allow a good day here more if you can.

The Torre is an imposing reminder of Alghero when it was a walled city and served as the center of Aragon's rule over Sardinia.
Sardinia is a large island (second largest in the Mediterranean after Sicily) with very distinct regions, mountainous to plains, rocky coastline to miles of sandy beaches . Not so densely populated. Several urban centers, each with its own particular history like Alghero: commercial and cultural center of the Aragonese when the King of Aragon (later Spain itself) ruled a large part of Sardinia for nearly 400 years, beginning in the early 1300's. Algherese, one of the island's officially recognized languages, blends Catalan with Old Latin ...enough so to clearly distinguish it from its Latin-based language cousins.
Arrived in the early evening, walked along the seaside promenade to the old town for a taste of local culinary fare...quite good. Next day repeated the exercise with a little more deliberation. Very nicely restored to its original Medieval/Mediterranean state. Cafes, restaurants, chapels and cathedrals at every twist and turn.
Bordering the length of its seaward face, an esplanade converted for that use from what had been the town's ramparts, cannons at the ready. These days the fortifications peacefully oversee a huge fleet of pleasure craft moored in the bay. Tourism is an important economic driver all over Sardinia....mainland Italians, Brits and Germans. Very few Americans.

When in Alghero you should definitely stroll along the promenade. The view is amazing and if you're lucky you might even see dolphins. There are also a lot of nice restaurants where you can enjoy lunch or dinner with a perfect sunset view!

Built in the 16th century, it was a part of the fortifications of Alghero. La Torre dell'Espero means The Tower of the Spur, is better known by the name Torre di Sulis after the revolutionary from Cagliari, Vincenzo Sulis, who was imprisoned inside, spending a twenty two years of isolation within its walls. He actually didn't die in the tower but got a pardon and wrote his autobiography before his death in 1834.

A defensive tower - one of several. Quite the rendezvous landmark if you like. It has survived a longtime.

This one is the first from the seven towers scattered around the Old Town. The view over the sea is splendid from there!Otherwise, not much to say about the tower itself.

Part of the walls and fortifications of Alghero, but larger in size than other towers due the fact it was also a prison.
Not too well looked after, but salty water is not helping either.

Build like many other such towers for the defense of Alghero by the Spanish. Quite large in diameter. Learnt that one of their enemies was imprisoned there for more than 20 years ( No windows)

All the historical Buildings are located in Alghero downtown. Torre is a place from where begins interesting walk to reach important Churches, squares, small Parks and finally sea Marina of Alghero.
