As churches go, this one is pretty, but nothing extraordinary. It is a nice break, an oasis in the middle of the bustling city.

We spent quite some time in the church, sitting to take everything in and walking round to see the various chapels and statues. The best part was the cloisters where you can walk round as the monks did in the 15th century. A very peaceful place. Don't miss it.

As you walk through old town Alghero it is worthwhile to take a break and visit the Franciscan Church. It is relatively plain as far as churches go, in accordance with the Franciscans pledge of poverty. The facility exudes a sense of Tranquility and peace.

the old town is quaint and although it could also be mesmerisingly beautiful, it isn't. Such a pitty, maybe because it's not a tourist hub yet. Could do with some cleaning and planting, needs green and colourful flowers but thats just my opinion.

Chiesa di San Francesco is a nice oldchurch and monastery right at the centre of the historic town of Alghero.

This is also a church with plenty of details (check my photos). Many photos posted to this site are from the additional space, the charming cloister consisting of two rows of round arches. The time I visited this church at that area there were plenty of chairs in the in the middle of the patio. A wedding ceremony had just... More

Original Catalan-Gothic parts can be seen over the high altar, the presbytery chapels and the San Sacramento Chapel. The bell tower is from the first half of the 16th century.
