If you've never been, you'll be very impressed with Sardinia. Just 2 hours from Stanstead, this is the island that most Brits never visit . A few Germans and French, but mainly Italians, you could never call it 'touristy', plenty of empty beaches and fabulous mountains. The countryside is pristine, and the people really friendly. An exceptional island, and the Med's best kept secret.

The Gennargentu National Park occupies a large swathe of central Sardinia close to the East coast. There are many spectacular walking tracks up mountains, through forests and down gorges, to follow. The area is not over spoiled by mass tourism, so there are plenty of places to explore quietly. The main points of interest are the mountain of Punta La Marmora, the highest point in Sardinia at 6,000 ft, and Mount Tiscali with its gigantic natural caves. There are plenty of well marked and well maintained paths throughout this National Park area but it is advisable to explore with someone who knows the area well. We had some very memorable walks here.

This is a large park on the central east. It is crossed by a very good paved road which offer great views of the peaks and the valley. From the high point of the road several shorts and long hikes are possible, most of them are well marked and technically easy. A deviation on the south leads to Urzulei and other villages where the real old Sardinia way of live has not changed.

Wild, untamed territory that keaves you in awe, even when only riding through it on the main road. Unparalleled views.

We arrived to natural park of Gennargentu around 11am and went on a tour by ourselfs. We got to the prking place near the river. The entrance fee is 2€ per person, and you can go in or out the whole day. There is one place that is very interesting right on the begining of the path so if you want you can go there and back. But we went forward to see if there is anything else. After about 10-15min of walking we came to the end of the path, if we wanted to continue we needed to take of our shoes, and so we did. We continued for another 10-15 minutes without our shoes, and the we stoped. We could go further but that day we had planed to go to Cala Luna so we turned back. All together it was a very nice trip with nice nature.

One of our goals in Sardinia was also to climb up to Punta la Marmora, the highest mountain of the island. When we watched the weather forecast one evening before it was not good. Despite that the next morning we decided to try. At the beginning the weather was cloudy and we started to climb, but after less than an hour it started to become more and more rainy so we had to turn back. The way up is quite nice, but unfortunately we will maybe try to reach our goal next time.
