Bari Vecchia or the old town is not a big area still one cab get easily lost in the medieval maze of cobbled streets. I enjoyed strolling the streets not only at day time but also during the night when the streets are less busy, more relaxing and with different perspective, Why not to star at Piazza del Ferrarese and walk the up the city walls, the wall end not far away from the Basilica di San Nicolas. You can have a good meal or drink, watch the locals enjoying there live. This is not just tourist part. You can really be part of the authentic live of local people. You see the children playing on streets, boys playing football, men watching football match and drinking beer, peer into households through open doors covered only by the curtains, hanging clothes or local women making the typical pasta.

With a gorgeous old town, bustling traditional harbour and Italy’s best beaches nearby, the Italian port city of Bari is well worth a visit. Add a thriving local food scene and you may never leave...and of course here's one of the best Duomo, the Orthodox-Catholic st. Nicholas church.

After eating at Mastro Ciccio, walk to your left and when you reach the water make your way going up and let yourself be driven by curiosity, and interest. If you’ve read a short simple guide - any of the many you can find at information points or google - you can imagine life in Old Town and enjoy simple, white lines and surfaces that make up churches, houses and piazzas. Don’t forget walking modern Bari. You’ll love both.

Beautiful buildings made in white stone, narrow streets, amazing smell of the Italian food being cooked, open doors covered only by the thin curtains, clothes hanging out to dry... so authentic, so Italian. It's simply awesome just to wonder around the streets.

This old town has 4,000+ years of history. After the Greek settlers (Magna Graecia) came, they were followed by the Romans, Saracens, Byzantines, Moors, Normans and Swabians. Then came the beloved reign of Frederick II and connections to the Polish princess – the Duchess of Bari.
The town has narrow meandering streets, unique shops, historic piazzas, long established trattorias, pizzerias and cafes. Alleyways lead to the 13th-century Cattedrale di San Sabino, Fortino di Sant’Antonio, impressive Basilica San Nicola, elegant Teatro Petruzzelli, imposing Castello Normanno-Svevo and a couple of Museums amongst other things.
It is worth your time - you just need some good walking shoes...

Just take a stroll through the streets of Old Town, feel the vivid atmosphere of Apulian neighborhood and observe the daily lives of the local. During afternoon, the Apulian women, both old and young, made orechiette pasta. The tradition that has passed from generation to generation even today.

Murat is a district next to Old Town, polished and commercial. You can see an interesting contrast between tradition and modern.

Did 3 different tours around the old town and on each occasion always found a new street or a house.
The old town has been well maintained and is kept clean at any time of the day or night.
Most of the narrow streets are well iluminated and many citizens do leave in some of those historical houses.

If you dont speak the language it is not worth your time to visit. Even though Italy is a mesmerising country. You cant find decent food to eat and people are racists and wont even try to help you unless you speak the language. (They dont care for tourists it seems) It was a very poor experience and waste of time and money.

Strolled around in the old town. Very cozy with narrow streets and alleys. The laundry hanged to dry over your head. Elderly ladies – "nonne" – making fresh Orecchiette out on the street, with children around. Bought lovely ice cream in one of the many ice cream places. Happy to go back.
