Villa Valmarana, the home of Count Giustino Valmarana, is located in the hills just outside of Vicenza and was designed by Gianbattista Tiepolo. It can be reached on foot, but, we opted for the 8 euro taxi ride from the train station. An audio guide is available and helps describe the design and contents of each of the rooms of the main house and the adjacent pallazzina. The views of the surrounding hills are spectacular and were one of the highlights of the visit for me.

We spent a special event with family and friends. It was an exquisite experience, with the best of art, culture, atmosphere and dinner. Veronica' s guidance along Tiepolos' frscoes had the "thumbs up" from both young and old generations. A very big thank you for Giulio Vortigara Valmarana, who made all possible!

This was one of the loveliest visits to a villa we have ever made. We came for the art and architecture, of course. And they were wonderful. Seeing one building painted by Tiepolo dad and the other by Tiepolo son was very instructive regarding their personal styles. But most interesting turned out to be the connection of the various owners to this building and grounds. The paintings in each room of the villa illustrated the first owner's favorite books. The furnishings show how people could really live with these living walls. In the forestiera guest house, Tiepolo son created illustrations according to a different theme in each room, all fanciful. With the furnishings, you can see how guests could wake up in a Chinese fairy tale, a Gothic story or a fantastic journey to an exotic land of marvelously exotic characters.
Family photos, paintings, books and personal momentos, showing generations of real people living here add to the feel of a real home cherished and preserved with such care.
And for tourist needing lunch or a snack, the delightful outdoor terrace and normal-priced items made us feel like a Valmarana for a few moments.
One suggestion for those visiting on foot from the train station, as we were. We followed the road paralleling the tracks until we got to Borga Berga, then turned when the Villa signs directed us to. Better is to take the bike-pedestrian path behind Borgo Berga. It connects directly to the villa entrance road, via Tiepolo. The bike path starts where the viale risorgimento nazionale, Le Scalette and Borgo Berga meet.
One other suggestion - certainly walk 5 minutes down the road and visit the famous Palladian villa La Rotunda as well to round out the experience.

This is a relatively small property consisting of two villas with gorgeous gardens. The part of the gardens included in the entrance tickets is of limited size and does not take long to see.

Each room in the villas is frescoed in a different style, one nicer than the next. It was a pleasure to be able to enjoy non-religious art in Italy.

We took a taxi from the train station to this attraction and asked the security guard to call a taxi for us when we were ready to leave.

Experience true Italian culture, beauty and friendliness by staying here. Close to many great restaurants and day tripping to Verona, Sirmione, Marcostica, Bassona del Grappa and Venice. Great for larger groups. Grounds and elegance of architecture are amazing. Love all the frescos and family history you find here. I probably will never stay at a more beautiful and historic place.

My wife and I spent four nights in Vicenza, and made sure to include a Wednesday to allow for touring the interior at La Rotunda, followed by a several minute easy walk over to the Villa Valmarana ai Nani.

The visit (cash, no credit cards) consists of visits to two structures, one being the main villa, and the other an accompanying structure containing several rooms which featured fabulous frescoes, chandeliers. Fortunately, unlike La Rotunda, photography was allowed, and I ended up taking many photos of the interiors in both buildings. We learned about the meaning of Nani, and I ended up taking photos of literally each and every dwarf along the outer wall. The view out to the countryside was also fabulous.

There is a small cafe at the entrance offering very basic fare.

Although accessible from town by foot, my wife and I opted for a taxi in both directions, was about E10 each way, the staff at ai Nani gladly called a taxi for us to return. We have also noted the option of the #8 bus from the train station, but our hotel was at the town's east end, so that last thing we wanted was yet another long walk. There is easy parking at both La Rotunda and here if you choose to drive.

Bottom line, this is a great pairing with La Rotunda for a morning of touring historic villas.

Hello, We thank you for your kind message, and are pleased you enjoyed your time in our villa! You perfectly described all the means to get to the villa and back in town, except maybe the 20-minute walk from the town center, through the footpath/cycle track. The legend of the dwarfs that distinguish our villa from the other ones belonging to the Valmarana family is a pleasant one to discover… During the off-season, our café should remain open every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, within the Foresteria in Sala dei Putti. From more than a year now, both products from the bookshop and entrance tickets can be paid either by cash or by credit card. We hope to see you soon again in our villa, The Valmarana family.

Just a 5 minute walk from Villa Rotonda, this villa features the paintings of equal interest. A good guide in English explains the murals in each room. The adjacent guest house features murals by the artist's son.
Really worth seeing, and there is a small restaurant good for a snack.

We thank for your message, we are glad that you enjoyed your time in our villa and you could discover its history. Villa Valmarana ai Nani is the only Villa in which people can compare the art of Giambattista (the father) with the art of Giandomenico Tiepolo (his son). Tiepolo's frescoes are really priceless! Best Regards, Valmarana family.

We rode bikes up to the villa, which is a nice ride. The villa is beautiful, inside and out. I appreciated the magnificent frescos all over the inside, the furniture, and the family photos. Nice to see that this place is enjoyed by the family over the generations, with all the weddings and babies and kids! The man who sells the tickets is very helpful and friendly. Garden is very beautiful with a wonderful view.

Nice looking villa from the outside. Its interior frescoed walls are special, and just as striking.
Located just north of Villa La Rotunda.
