This was probably the best church in the city for me. Many interesting features and multiple levels. Make sure you have a close look at the bronze doors. Two recommendations, first take a copy of the interior guide when offered at the ticket desk and 2 pay for a 4 churches pass or the Verona card. I would recommend the latter as it covers all major attractions in the city.

The site is in a different part of the city but still quite central but yo7 get to enjoy more of the residenpart of the city than the tourist areas around the other main sites. There is an entry fee and we bought the five site ticket which works out very good value. The interior is a real time capsule dating back centuries and if you like Medieval times this is for you., St Zeno the city’s patron Saint was buried here and he lived 1600 years ago,!fabulous frescos as well. Well worth a visit

This is a beautiful church, yet one of the most unusual ones we’ve visited so far. There are 3 levels to this church all visible to the visitor right when one enters. There is the altar, the crypt, and the nave. The cloisters are also very different from most cloisters we’ve seen. The doors are adorned with embossed copper. This is a bit of a walk from old town, but it is definitely worth a visit. One can buy the combo ticket to visit all 4 major churches in Verona for €8.00 per person. All 4 churches are beautiful in their own way with some of the most unusual architecture yet. If you happen to visit this one first, ask for the combo ticket as you will want to see the others.

This Basilica is a masterpiece. I remember visiting it as a child, and coming back after 20 years made me rediscover a true architectural jewel.
The church is an environment that is transformative in its simplicity and in its sophistication.
We walked here from the Castle, which was a short stroll, we then took a bus that took us near the cathedral, which was a good m love on a rainy day. The church is quite far from the other landmarks, so better to plan to reach it or come back by public transport.

Very impressive church, built 967-1398 that houses the relics of the city's patron saint, San Zeno. One of northern Italy's most ornate churches. The exterior is Romanesque and above the portal is a beautiful rose window which represents the wheel of fortune. The slender belltower also contributes to the very symmetrical impression you get when you look at the facade. The interior is even more impressive starting with the beautiful cloister with its arches and courtyard and then a step inside this magnificent building where you can see a famous altarpiece by Andrea Mantegna, the crypt, where San Zeno rests in his silver mask, and the place where Romeo and Juliet are said to have married. The church's bronze doors are incredible works of art with their 48 panels and don't forget to look above you to admire the splendid roof in the nave. This is a must-see in Verona.

The church is probably the best one in Verona but it's a long walk along the river from the castle to get there. The cloisters are lovely and the bronze door panels are equal to any others. The crypt with the glass coffin contains the robbed figure of the Saint with silver mask.
The frescos & ceiling magnificent. As is the tall Bell tower over the site of King pepin!

This church is stunning! The outside looks brand new. We could not tour the inside because we were there during a Sunday service. We stayed for a little while; it was beautiful. Outside is a beautiful bronze statue of an angel. You can catch the hop on/hop off bus right across the street.

Through all my years in Catholic school I never heard the story of Saint Zeno, who baptized this part of Italy. Turns out "the black bishop" came from Africa, as confirmed by a DNA test in 2012. The crypt allegedly was the scene of the fictional marriage of Romeo and Juliet. Definitely worth a visit, and you can buy a combo ticket for the other major churches of Verona at a discount.

A walk with friends next to the water brought us to this Basilica and we took pictures. Impressive temple with a big square.

Is admission free? If not do you recommend getting tickets in advance to avoid lines during peak season?

It is free entry with the Verona card
Chiedo perche pagare nata e residente per 45 anni a S. Zeno , ora in Germania. Parlo correttamente Veronese e sanzenato. Una vergogna !!! Non sono le 2.50 ma il principio di buon senso. Allora pretento chi mi fa pagare sia veronese residente . Buona giornata .

How long is the audio tour? Where do we pick it up? Where do we buy the ticket that covers all 4 churches? Thanks!

Hi, you can find the ticket at the entrance and this include other churches too. The audio is inside the church, but you will find someone there very helpful. The tour is less than 1 hour but it worth. Enjoy it :)

Si parla di una basilica con parecchie dietrologie, simbologie intrinseche, qualcuno sa o ha i vari significati?

At the entrance of the 4 historical churches of Verona there is a basket where you will find some kimono that you can put over naked shoulders or wear if you are dressed with pants or skirt too short. This is a free service.
