Murano, Burano and Torcello Half-Day Sightseeing Tour

5,015 reviews
This sightseeing tour allows you to see three islands in the Venetian Lagoon in half a day. Visitors often visit Murano—well-known for its glass-blowing factory—but fewer make it to Burano and Torcello, with their lace-making shops and ornate palaces and churches. The tour also offers two departure times a day, making it easier to fit into your schedule.

We happened to pass Balbi Art Glass near the end of our two-plus hour walk and picnic lunch on Murano. The window attracted us - so different from the (literally) dozens of similar small-animals-and-kaleidoscopic-jewelry displays elsewhere on the island. We entered and found Signore Igor Balbi behind the register. On a busy day elsewhere we were the only customers for the 15 minutes we spent in the shop, with Mrs. TwoInMaine buying a lovely green large-bead pendant on a silver multi-string necklace for 60 euros (September 2017). Mr. TiM's father advised the value of "buying even the least expensive item in a quality store" and that proved the case here. We understand Balbi Art Glass is so different that it is not for everyone. But stop in and look for yourself - preferably after a coffee or aperitivo at a nearby bar or trattoria.

Igor Balbi is a creative young glass maker. The front rooms are a gallery where he puts on small exhibits of other young glass makers, while his own workshop is in the back rooms. His goblets are really beautiful and delicate, the most original by far that I saw in several days of looking just for glass in Venice and Murano. Igor is very nice and will explain how he gets unusual colors and patterns. He ships to the US and elsewhere and claims he has zero breakage. Wonderful stuff.

Absolutely beautiful glass art. Modern and striking. Wish I had a bigger house to put the art in. Staff friendly and helpful
