The situation of this church is absolutely lovely. And unlike several other churches we saw it is not too difficult to capture the entire front of the building in one shot. We did have a chance to go inside, as I believe we arrived during...More

We used our vaporetta pass to circumnavigate Venice on a day trip, stopping off at various points along the way, enabling us to get to some of the more distant places. San Pietro di Castello was lovely, with a pleasant 10-minute from the vaporetta station...More

Recommended to us by our accomodation host, we journeyed to Basilica di San Pietro di Castello, as this is the oldest basilica in Venice, set on a small island that is one of the first to become populated. The good points are that it is...More

This is a beautifully ornate church. Very little is original but a great deal of effort has been put into restoring the sections which have been damaged or destroyed. This church belongs to the 'Chorus' group for which you can purchase a special pass on...More

thus us so beautiful! we stumbled onto it when getting lost (on purpose) in Venice. This neighborhood is so quiet and it's where the locals really are. The tower is lovely and again feels like a step back in time. (IT IS!)

This ancient church is visited by very few tourists, situated as it is well away from the main touristic centre of the city. It stands on its own island just off the eastern end of the city (linked by footbridge) and if you come here...More

We found this on Trip Advisor while in Venice. It was interesting because you only hear of Pisa as the only leaning tower, but so does this one. It's a ways away from the normal tourist areas and at one point we felt like outsiders,...More

This church is on Isola San Pietro and you will have to walk there either via Giuseppe Garibaldi street or take a vaporetto. We walked on the way there and it was very peaceful. The church was built in 7th century but rebuilt few times...More

Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri
(districts), and the only one not facing onto the
Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated
within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over
one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime
neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side
streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals
criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a
