The beautiful exterior of this church attracted me to go inside to have a look. Even though it's not as glamorous as the one in Rome, this church has its own beauty. Love the organ playing at 3.30pm just before the mass. It's really therapeutic!

A short one-stop ride on the #2 Vaporetto from S. Zaccaria "D" dock whisks you away from the flowing mass of tourists along the waterfront pushing in and out of St Marks Square, to the little island of San Giorgio Maggiore, and the best bell tower view of the city. If it was 3 Euro per person, if it were 6 euro per person, I forget, just pay it, and ride the elevator to the top. There won't be a line of visitors, there won't be an attendant pushing you along. There won't even be a time limit! But you now have access to 360 degree views of the Grand Canal, St. Marks Square, all of Venice and the Venetian Lagoon and Lido beyond. It's the perfect after-lunch-but-before-we-tour-another-museum breath of fresh air you were looking for. Fair warning though, it's loud if you're up there at the hour or half-past the hour! And heights . . . if you're not a heights person, this is all about the bell tower (very beautiful church and waterfront if you want to stay planted on the ground).…
