Our tour guides, Adam and Maya, brought the Italian culinary experience to our lips. Their food tour is both filled with the sampling of fine specialty Italian food in an atmosphere of joyful participation, and a walking adventure through the heart of many Venice neighborhoods. Our stopping points were small specialty local restaurants. Each of the proprietors of these restaurants took us in welcoming us with open arms only in the way Italians can. In each establishment, we felt we were special. And, the proprietors and Adam and Maya explained in detail the culinary specialty were were to experience at that establishment.
After our delightful stay at each spot, we were on our way to the next stop with Adam and Maya providing antidotes of information about the history and even local rumors associated with the sights and sounds around the canals, bridges, statues, churches, and every other thing we found on our journey. Both Maya and Adam were very knowledgeable about the sights and sounds of the Venice you don't always see in the more heavily traveled areas.
Both Adam and Maya are very personable, and readily became engaged with the 10 participants in our tour even though most of us were coming from different countries and cultures. Before we knew it, we were all laughing and engaging with each other, making friends, and sharing our experiences.
My friend and I felt we were away from the maddening crowds, but still experiencing the variety of fine foods and drink you can only get with an intimate tour like this. We both agree,, that Adam and Maya have put their heart and soul into this, and because of their effort, this food tour became the highlight of our visit to Italy.

It is quite extraordinary how an American couple could be Venice's best food & wine tour guides but they certainly established that with our group in March 2017.
The locals were as absorbed in the talks by Maya and Adam as we were, their admiration (as well as our own) of the couple's passion & knowledge was very evident.
Food & wine selections were excellent, always top of the menus (unlike others I have been on) & I can only give them my highest recommendation... you won't be disappointed.

My husband and I and our niece and her friend were in Venice for only a day and a half and we were SO DELIGHTED that we took Adam and Maya’s Venice Bites Food Tour!! Adam and Maya are fabulous tour guides who obviously love Venice and love teaching tourists about Venetian local food, drink and customs. They were both very friendly, knowledgeable and a lot of fun. We absolutely loved each place that they took us and they explained in detail what our food and drink options were and introduced us to the owners of each establishment (which were all family owned). We enjoyed the fact that they only have small tour groups, so that it is more personal. We never felt rushed and there was ample food and drink on the tour. We would have signed up for their Progressive Dinner tour that night, but they were already sold out. We all felt like we learned a lot, saw a lot and ate and drank a lot with Adam and Maya and we had a great time. We highly recommend their tour and will definitely take it again if we have the chance to return to Venice!!

Mia and Adam are two expats who fell in love with Venice and now make it their home. They have developed some nice relationships with the local eateries and we visited several small bite places called bacara. We drank local wine which was very tasty at each place. Of the three places we visited only one was of great quality and portion. It was a meat and cheese plate with several different types of pork cheese and bread. One of the stops had typical Italian tapas such as stuffed squid, artichoke bottoms, and saor. You chose two and they warmed them up in a microwave. Not great. Our main meal was a set menu of salad, a somewhat bland penne pasta and sliced steak that was okay. Gelato and an after dinner drink followed. This cost a whopping 100 euro a piece. We could not have eaten more than 30 euro worth of food that was really nothing great. Mia and Adam are friendly and engaging and they really try to keep the energy lively but they really need to step up their game. We are now in Slovenia and had a marvelous food tour with great wine and history and culture from a local. The tour was 4 hours and was 55 Euro a piece. The only other food tour that cost 100 euro was a 7 hour one that we did in turkey where each stop was literally a full meal. We are big foodies and have done many tours so perhaps we are pickier than someone doing one for the first time. They have potential and they need to offer more and lower their price

2 Americans pretending to be Italian. They bring you to the worst and cheapest restaurants, hurry you through the tour... stay clear from these 2 charlatans... they're scammers not tour guids!!

Adam and Maya were warm, entertaining and knowledgeable hosts who guided us through the tastes of real Venice. A great experience that I would highly recommend.

We were a group of four. We did the canals, the gondola rides, the usual things, but the best part of our Venice visit was this tour. Best way to experience the area and the food. It starts with two amazing hosts, Adam and Maya. They may not be locals, but they know Venice well. They explained customs, traditions, history....it was more than just food and drink. The tour offered something for everyone in our group. Adam and Maya....if you're reading this, know that if you're ever in Canada, mum's offer of a home cooked Armenian meal still stands!

We did the daytime Dorsoduro tour, a private tour for our group of 8, and it was fantastic - one of the highlights of our entire trip! The guides are engaging and informative, and they have a unique insight into the food and traditions of Venetian culture. Not only do you get to try all the delicious specialties of the region, both sweet and savory (and boozy), but they also give you so much useful information that will make the rest of your trip that much better (such as how to claim your space at the cicchetti bars, for example).
We always try to book a food tour on every trip we take, and this one was by far one of the most memorable.
If you can, try to book your tour the first day or two you will be in Venice, as you'll end up with plenty of recommendations and suggestions for other restaurants you can use during the rest of your trip (and you'll probably end up like us, going back to a few spots more than once!)

We took this tour with Adam and Maya last week. I did a lot of reading before I booked with them, but the clincher was that they make a point of supporting the locals and are away from the beaten path. Use your tourist powers for good, not evil!! Booking was a breeze from the website, and you get a reminder a few days before.
We arrived a day prior, and made sure we knew where the meeting point was. It is in the Dorsoduro area, and we were in the other part of the island in Castello, so we made sure to scope out our route and travel time (about 20 minutes by foot). It is easy to find and we went to the Accademia also (free the day we arrived).
So… After thinking about history, Tintoretto, Bellini, stolen relics and bronze horses and where you fit in with all this overwhelming evidence of grand human existence the unifying factor is….. "I'm human and I'm hungry"! You can choose a snooty tour person to take you around,OR you can also choose someone who can cut to the chase and immediately introduce you to the simple pleasures of good food. Adam and Maya have done all the hard work of bridging North American culture with the Venetian local culture (they say "we" and "us" a lot when referring to Venetians) and help timid folks like me navigate the local food scene. Because they have american background, I'm not afraid to ask dumb questions (like …Do you eat the pigeons?) or be myself.
We were lucky to have a total of six in our group of outgoing and like minded individuals (not all were from USA). Small groups allow better interaction. Also I'm shy so it's nice to have a mix of different people. Adam and Maya, however, have great transference so you immediately take a liking to them (the Big Lebowski!!!) and they are kind, respectful, outgoing, and friendly. Hubs does not drink at all, and was not felt to be an outsider at any time… in fact he really enjoyed the lemon soda and the sparkling water…. always a non-alcoholic option at all the venues. In fact, I was concerned about too much alcohol (was needless concern) and alternated with water at the different venues. I really enjoyed learning about local Venetian wine. In fact, I would never have tried it myself. At first I was hesitant (and did not finish my little ombre glass at the cicchetti place) but now regret it! The red wine does not have preservatives, no sulphites, chilled, and tastes so fresh…. after they taught us what it was, and how to order etc I was brave and had it always for dinner and sometimes for lunch at the various places we visited afterwards. Thank you for teaching me about this! I'm a convert.
There was lots of food and drink and gelato too. They made sure that all food allergies etc were respected, and that everyone had enough to eat. Well worth it! The spritz at the end with the teaching regarding the differences between Campari, Aperol and Select was very interesting and the location was a wonderful way to end the tour. Along the way, they also point out interesting locations (the bridge of fists) and brief histories and architecture and intersperse with anecdotes on modern daily living in Venice today.
I would highly recommend this tour, and in fact would take it again if I would be in Venice in the future. They provide a friendly environment for questions and this tour is an excellent introduction to navigating the food and restaurants in Venice. We were visiting for 8 days, and I thought about this tour and what I learned from them, every day we were there. (Sometimes I was brave and tried what they taught me, and sometimes I tanked and went to the tourist places…. but I always thought of what I learned on the first day).
Thank you Adam and Maya, you are doing a good service to your city, and to tourists like me.

We had a fantastic time! My wife and I have done over 20 food tours and this was one of the best. The price seems kind of steep for us but we learned on the tour that Maya pays full price for the food we eat because she wants to take us to some of the best places and not the spots that offer discounts for tours. Awesome food and fun history of the city and people. We'd gladly recommend this tour to any foodies out there and people interested in having a 'local' dining experience. Below is a list of the foods we had during the tour.
Cicchetti:
Fried meatballs
Shrimp in Saor - (onions, vinegar, raisins, pine nuts)
Cod and oil whipped together
Cicchetti:
Stuffed Calamari
Cheese wrapped in ham
Sarde in Saor
Stuffed tomato
Cheese
parmesan
blue cheese
Salami
prosciutto
vegetable risotto
brazen beef
Gelato
manet (pistachio and chocolate)
spritz w/ prosecco
Campari - bitter
Select - Venice Specialty
Aperol - Sweet

Hi! The reviews for this tour are so fantastic that I would like to book it for my family's trip to Venice in June. Can anyone tell me where to book it?

Could a vegan enjoy this tour too?
Written June 18, 2019
Hi Ponge69. I’m sure Adam and Maya would do their best but our tour involved a lot of meat and cheese as well as the milk in the gelato. I think that’s the nature of a lot of Italian food. Maybe drop them a direct message on the Venice Bites website to find out more?

Can we bring our 10 and 12 year old girls? They are used to walking tours of Washington DC, and are picky eaters, but curious still...
Written March 29, 2019
If your kids are into learning about and trying new types of food, then yes they would love the tour. If there macaroni and cheese only kids leave them at the mall and go without them :)

Has anyone been to both the day and the night tour? If we have the time should we do both or is one enough?
Written February 16, 2019
Go to both. They cover completely different sections of Venice and also different food. It is well worth it and you will gain a wealth of data on the lifestyles, customs and foods of Venice.

Why isn't there a description of events for this tour? Maybe I've missed it but I have no idea what to expect taking this.

The website has all the info you need. If you want more, I’m sure you can email through contact info on website. We absolutely loved the progressive dinner tour. When we return to Venice, we’ll do this tour again.
