About
The National Archaeological Museum of Venice is placed in Saint Mark's Square, near the Doge's Palace and the Basilica. It displays to the visitors the antiquities collected by the rich Venetians during the last five centuries. You have the opportunity to admire beautiful Greek statues dated to the 5th and the 4th century BC, the impressive Grimani Galatians, Roman portraits, reliefs, inscriptions, pottery, ivories, gems (the famous Zulian's Cameo) and an interesting coin collection

The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

Out of the three institutions accessed through the Museo Correr entrance this was the most interesting for me, as a graduate in Roman imperial history.
I was particularly wowed by the collection of coins from the Roman era and even before then, back to the earliest years of the Republic. Another highlight was the collection of Roman funerary sculptures.
On the downside the information boards, which seem to have been intended to be in both Italian and English, often omitted the English version. But, to be fair, it is an Italian museum!
So thumbs up, albeit with some concerns re interpretation for international visitors.

You can only enter the Archaeological Museum by buying St Marks Museum Pass which includes the Doge’s Palace and Correr Museum (€25) or the Museums Pass (€35).
A word of warning about the ticket – it is a little confusing and I don't think it was just us! The ticket lists the Correr, the Marciana Library and the Archaeological Museum as if they are separate museums. At first I thought that we wouldn’t have time for all of them and would have to choose. In fact, all three are inside the Correr. They are basically all a part of the one thing so you see them all at the same time. You enter through the Correr Museum doorway. Inside, the layout was also confusing and we often couldn't tell when we’d left one area and entered another. To be honest, it didn't really matter in the end but it confused us at first.
Having said that, it is definitely worth doing. If you have limited time, just skip the parts that don't interest you, pick the bits that do and make a beeline for them. Rooms 3 – 18 are mostly ancient Roman busts, statues and reliefs, Room 2 is ancient Venetian coins - complete set of every coin minted by Venice from 820 – 1797. It was surprisingly interesting. Another room has Egyptian mummies, canopic jars, statues and battle and hunting scenes (we accidentally missed these due to the museum layout).
If ancient art is not your thing, you may want to focus on other parts of the Correr including Napoleon’s Palace rooms, works by Bellini, exhibits of Venetian life, weapons & armoury exhibits of ship-building and many artefacts that belonged in the Doge’s Palace,
TIPS:
• Look for the information cards (English & Italian) in the corners of most rooms. You can pick them up and walk along with them, reading as you go. I thought these were excellent and meant that you didn't need to hire an audio guide.
• Bags, backpacks, umbrellas are not allowed but there is a free bag-room once inside
• The café has the best view right down St Marks Square to the basilica – a perfect photo opportunity

we want to thank you for your kind reward.
It is true that our museum is part of a museum itinerary including 3 museums (Museo Correr, Archaeological Museum and Monumental Rooms of the Marciana Library), all in the palace called Procuratie Nuove or Royal Palace, but we are not part of Museo Correr. Actually, our museum was founded 250 years before Museo Correr was and it is one of the first public museums of the world.
We know that the visit could be confusing and, indeed, we are planning a new layout and we have already improved the information plaques: for example, there is a big red banner indicating the border between Correr and the Archaeological museum.
We have a coin collection in room 2 but there are Greek and Roman coins on display (some of them date back to the 4th century BC!). Venetians coins are not considered archaeological finds because they are too "recent" and, indeed, they are on show in Museo Correr.
We are working to make the visit more engaging and enjoyable.

This museum has a large collection of Greek and Roman sculptures, as well as ancient coins. It is included in the price of entrance of the Doge's Palace and is worth a visit.

Situated on the first floor of the Procuratie Nuove, between the Corer Museum and the Sansovino Library most of archaeological collection dates from 1523, when Cardinal Domenico Grimani bequeathed to the Republic of Venice his Roman and Classical statues. There are also pieces of bronzes, ceramics, gems and coins. Entry is included in the Museum pass. One must have coffee in their charming little cafe that overlooks the piazza. Highly recommended esp for a rainy day

This museum is the second of three in the Procuratie Nuove. It is much smaller than the Museo Correr, but its many exhibits - statues, vases, reliefs, the two Egyptian mummies - are shown in a way that is both neat and easy to comprehend.
The only objection we had, were the descriptions: the letters were rather small and we had to lean forward to read the descriptions. In doing so, I inadvertently activated the alarm! It was very embarrassing, but fortunately it was sorted out quickly.
We recommend everyone to visit this interesting museum.

We found the museum to hold an amazing collection of artifacts but very badly signed unless you speak Italian. Do your homework before you go if you want to make the most of it.

You get combined entry as part of the Museo Currer, the various large Globes of the earth from different periods were quite fascinating, giving an insight into what people thought the world looked like in medieval times

Unfortunately, the Globes do not belong to the National Archaeological Museum of Venice.
Maybe the globes you are talking about are those at the Correr Museum, where it is possible to admire a pair of globes by Coronelli and a pair of globes by Willem Blaeu. Pay attention that all of these artworks date back to the 17th century,
Besides, there is on show a wonderful pair of globes by Coronelli also in the Monumental Rooms of the Marciana Library.

Entry to here comes as part of the Doges Palace tickets and the other museums you get entry to, probably our least favourite of the additional museums.
A lot of statues, pieces of archeological history but we didn't find it overly interesting. Wandered around plenty to see if you like this sort of thing.

we thank you for your feedback.
Our museum is a small archaeological museum but it display 270 marble artworks (statues, reliefs, Greek and Latin inscriptions), one hundred jewels, abot 350 coins, 50 vases coming from different nations, 30 bronze statuettes and 2 mummies. Our most noteworthy artworks are some Greek original artworks dating back to the 5th century BC. It is very rare and uncommon to find Greek original sculptures, even for an Italian museum.
We are planning a new setting up to make the visit more engaging and enjoyable for everyone. We hope to see you again :)

The Archaeological Museum and Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana (the Library) are the same museum complex with one ticket. If you are in a hurry, the Archaeological Museum part can be skipped in favor of the others.

It is true that our Museum is in the same palace hosting Museo Correr and Monumental Rooms of the Marciana Library but we are three different museums. Actually, the Archaeological one was founded 300 years before Museo Correr :)

The amateur reproduction of artworks property of the National Archaeological Museum of Venice is allowed only for personal or study purposes.
Flash, tripods and selfie sticks are not allowed.
A further authorization by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage - Polo Museale del Veneto is necessary for the photographic duplication for different purposes, in particular for profit-making business, even indirect. This includes the connection of the above –mentioned picture to any sort of advertisement , in any way and in any context, or to the company, the brand, the logo, the image, the business and the product of any subject.
