The Cannaregio area is busy but seemed less hectic than the area around St. Mark's Square. There was a good selection of restaurants and plenty of souvenir shops, The prices were much better than Murano!

We were offered a free water taxi to visit the Murano Glass Factory. We took it and were pleased we did. We watched a couple of demonstations of glass blowing and then were shown around the premises. I thought the glass was really beautiful everything from statues of eagles to chandalliers, jewelllery and ornaments. A lovely morning out!

I bought my Murano clown and my sister's earings and necklace here. Very happy with both items. Genuine Murano glass and affordable prices. (Note to the editors: I see that people are actually reviewing Venice itself under this shop. Please amend.)

I decided to look for this place after reading a review about it. After having 1 incredibly bad experience at one of the factories on Murano, I was quite wary and reticent about parting with my money (see my other review). I decided I wanted lamp shades for my bedroom. We arrived at the shop (after 1/2 hour walk in... More

Absolutely magical place. No need to set up your camera shot, every turn is a photo shoot. Breathtakingly beautiful. The water is turquoise just like the Canaletto paintings. It wasn't as expensive as I'd expected. Wear comfortable shoes as there is a lot of walking to do. Take a water taxi from the airport, and sail down the a Grand... More

Taxis... be carefull the taxi from the airport was 50 Euro. a total rip off. the bus station is on the edge of Venice and there are many bridges to walk over to get into the City. the bus to the airport is 6 euros and leaves every 15 mins. its only 40 minutes away. if you are going to... More

We were looking for a quick bit and found this place on trip advisor. There isn't a whole lot of space to eat in...but we got there early before the dinner rush. Ordered a normale sized pizza for ?5, it came out hot and quick. As good as you can get at some of the more expensive places.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
