Located on the western end of Fondamente Contarini (Google maps offers two locations, one is wrong!) in a quiet corner is the coolest boat yard/laboratory I have seen. Emeliano and friends are a bunch of born and bred Venetians whose aim it is to not...More

Had a great time learning to row in the ancient venetian style. Our guide was very knowledge about the rowing techniques and the different parts of Venice. I would recommend to anyone that visits and wants to get off the beaten track!

The absolute highlight of our 10 day trip to Italy was spent with Emiliano on his boat in the canals of the Cannaregio. His sincerity about the real Venice, the Venice where Venetians live, the one away from the crowds, is evident in his entire...More

Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district)
with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many
transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying
areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand
for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal
bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution,
2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli
Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby
