The area
Address
Neighborhood: San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

WE actually visited just before Covid and thank goodness, we were mesmerised by this treat of a store. The shop itself is also a museum it has been a perfumery for hundreds of years. The fragrances were extremely expensive - however, they are not mass produced - they are truly exquisite. the packaging is memorable and it was very special to marry a fragrance with the beautiful city to remember it by.

We recently visited Venice and both myself and my wife both love buying perfume and eau de cologne. We were looking for shops who sold these and came across the Merchant of Venice the lady who served us was very good and knew about her fragrances. We told her what are likes were and she suggested done different fragrances. We both choose one each and the good thing was is that once we return home not many people we have the same fragrance as us. If in Venice and you like perfumes you must go there.

Stumbled upon this beautiful perfume shop whilst on a day trip from garda town, what an amazing experience, my daughter and I thought it would be very expensive due to the luxurious interior, what a surprise only 45 euro for a bottle of perfume, I fell in love with the lily which is my favourite flower, no hard sell from the assistant a lovely indulgent experience.

My Husband and I visited this store whilst on honeymoon, the staff member that dealt with us was paitient and knowledgeable. She was more thn happy to leave us make a decision and come back once we had more questions. We were not rushed into a sale or pushed towards certain products. We bought three layering scents on the buy two get a third free promotion and we had so much fun trying all of the different scents.
The shop is a work of art as well - worth a visit just for the experience

I adore perfumes so this was on my list anyway and it didn't disappoint. There are other branches; this is the flagship store, set in a former apothecary shop with beautiful panelling and shelves. And the aroma...

Tatiana is lovely; helpful and knowledgeable. Nothing is too much trouble. Perfume is such a personal thing and she will help you find just what is right for you. The packaging is exquisite, murano glass for some of the range. It's quality service, amazing products and a stunning setting. A must-do for anyone who wants to explore perfumes and maybe treat yourself or someone special to something exceptional.

We purchased 3 different perfumes from the Merchant of Venice. There is a Lowe cost range 50 Euro a bottle - many various scents that can be layered with others. For example Black Oud can be then Layered with Arabian Amber. Then there is a higher range with the murano inspired bottles 120 Euro upwards. Worth the trip and lovely helpful staff. Even given samples and a book explaining the fragrance notes/history. There is also a smaller shop on strada Nova.
