The oldest pawn shop in the world? Possibly. When we visited, we watched a movie on the Jewish ghetto and the pawnshops within it. And then we were allowed to look around the shop at the historical documents and artefacts. Interesting and a nice add-on...More

This is a small museum with an incredible history. It is actually believed to be the world's first pawn shop and the phrase "to be in the red" probably comes from this place! The man working in the museum the day we went was very...More

Located near the Museo Ebraico, it is believed to be oldest surviving pawn shop in the world. It is a small museum but interesting one. Conducted tours happen every half an hour. The surrounding also is very serene. There are some nice kosher restaurants in...More

A small space but a very interesting display of artefacts and replicated documentation relating to the pawnbroking activity of this Banco in its heyday. There was an introductory ten minute video in English about its history and background, which was ideal. Well worth a visit...More

This is in the oldest Ghetto in the world and used to be shut off at night so that none of the Jewish people could leave ( doctors were the exception to this rule). There were originally three banks the red the green and the...More

This a cheao(2€) experience. You get a 10 minute video and a look at facsimile artefacts and documents in one of the three original pawn shops in Venice - possibly the oldest pawn shop in the world. Called the 'banco rosso' because they issued their...More

Insteresting information on Jewish money business during the time of the Ghetto. Great addition to the Jewish ensemble on Campo de Gheto Novo near Synagoges. We found it by chance and at first didn't associate with Jewish heritage. Worth visiting!

Nice small museum in the heart of the old Jewish Ghetto. Modern banking and pawn shops have originated from this area, a lot of history. Recommended.

This small museum offers a fantastic story of the first pawn shop in the world and the history of the Jewish getto in Venice. It's presented in the ground floor of the building in the same rooms as the first licensed pawn shop in Venice...More

Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district)
with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many
transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying
areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand
for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal
bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution,
2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli
Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby
