Neighborhood: Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.

My husband, who loves photography, and I went to Italy on our honeymoon. Atelier flavia gave us the best souvenir we could ask for - a Carnival themed photoshoot.

The owner and her son were extremely accommodating and helpful. The owner was able to take a single look at me, know my size, and find a costune that would fit. We rented the costume for an hour, and the owner's son toured us around to nearby locations for photos. My husband took so many amazing photos of me. It was priceless.

I also bought the gorgeous green velvet mask pictured below. It was reasonably priced and exquisitely made.

Atelier Flavia is simply without parallel. If you wish to honor Venetian Carnevale traditions and celebrate the elegance and mystery of Venetian history, there is no other establishment you should consider for your historical attire needs. Atelier Flavia features a wide array of handmade garments, masks, and all other accessories. When you enter the shop, the attention to detail is immediately obvious: every effort is made to ensure that the historical attire is as accurate and exquisite as possible, while also ensuring the greatest comfort of the individual who will be wearing the attire. The garments and accessories span many time periods (from the Renaissance to the Victorian era). Thus, whether you are celebrating Carnevale or seeking to attire yourself for some other event or venue, this Atelier will have what you need.

Atelier Flavia is a family-run operation. When you interface with these wonderful people, you are meeting true Venetians who love Venice and all that it represents, historically. They joyfully share their Venice with you and take pleasure in your admiration of their traditions.

There is no other establishment that will welcome you so warmly and encourage and enable you to cherish Venetian traditions.

This is simply the best atelier in Venice. Stunning, authentic, hand-crafted costumes are available to rent for all of your activities. This warm, family run business welcomes customers and Flavia goes out of her way to explain the unique touches that she puts into all of her costumes. You will not find the cheap, mass-produced costumes and products found in other stores. You will find authentically accurate and detailed costumes that make everyone want to take photographs of you, whether strolling the streets of Venice, attending grand balls, or simply dancing. Whatever your costume needs are - masks, wigs, capes, shoes, jewerly - Flavia and her small team go out of their way to assist you. After purchasing one of her costumes on Ebay several years ago, I decided to visit Venice and meet Flavia. After that experience, I return to Venice each year with my family. It is Flavia, her family and staff, and the passion that they share about their work, that draws us back. Joseph A.

We came to Atelier Flavia on a recommendation and were looking (last minute) for 3 women's costumes and 1 gentleman's costume. My husband and I had done the Venice Carnavale 17 years ago, and wanted to have our daughters experience it too.
Even though it was a little last minute, they managed to fit us into some beautiful costumes (my eldest was not in love with her dress but both of my daughters were hard to fit as they are tall but very slim), adjusted them for the next day and then picked them up 24 hours later. No hassle. We were complimented several times on the dresses - Flavia's costumes are beautifully made and properly adjusted for each person for the perfect fit. Grazie mille!!

Flavia showed us a few of her amazing creations. The costumes you can see there are really unique. The craftsmanship in each one is stunning. My wife and I tried the Camerlenghi dukes costumes - we never wanted to take them down. Don't miss your chance to visit this hidden treasure and, if you can afford it, bring home with you a piece of art. And if you can't afford, Flavia is a great character to talk to, she'll tell you the great story behind each costume.

This is a one of a kind shop that sums up the history of Venice quite nicely. They have amazingly detailed and accurate costumes that are replicas of what people wore long ago in Venice. I love this shop and it is a treat to visit. The masks here are top quality and it shows. The owner can make whatever you want and I highly recommend shopping here while in Venice.

I have the most wonderful experience, very very nice store :)
Family-owned business that custom creates period costumes for Venice Carnivale.
At the time I paid 50 Euro for a 1 hour rental to be dressed in the costume that I chose to take my own pictures in.. this was a must do for me while I was visiting Venice Italy! They speak broken english but we were able to communicate. My GPS took me a little wonky so make sure you do have plenty of time to find the place. I am so happy I did this. I'm only posting one picture, even though I have tons! They do also offer professional photography for an additional charge. They will also make and sell costumes. You choose your era. Excellent Quality!!! Highly Recommend :)

I visited this store a little under a month ago when I was in Venice. The staff were absolutely lovely and told me and my friends so much about the history of the masks and Venice as a whole, and about their experience in making the costumes and masks. I would definitely recommend stopping into this store and having a chat to anyone working. They were very welcoming and spoke great english!
