A romantic couple's gondola ride through Venice's many winding canals. An experience highly recommended.

We found Luca Padoan having read several positive reviews online. We were in regular e-mail contact with him, and met as arranged. We decided to take the 75 minutes tour which took in three separate districts of North west Venice, the Cannaregio, San Croce and San Polo, and included some areas which could not be reached on foot. Throughout the tour Luca was very informative and he speaks excellent English, He even serenaded us at one point with his lovely romantic singing voice echoing from the buildings on either side of the narrow canals. Most of the tour was off the beaten track, with made it a nice peaceful morning tour. If we were to visit Venice again we would definately make a point of booking Luca again. He can be contacted at lucykluca@hotmail.com We made this tour on 20th Ocoiber 2019.

Booked a gondola ride for 80 euros. The gondolier , Fabian was a very friendly and jovial person. He even sang for us. While taking us through the canals, he explained to us some of the attractions we were passing. From him, we got to know the house where Marco Polo once stayed, the bridges we came across, the marks showing the effects of low tides and high tides on the houses next to the canal. As we were on the gondola, other gondolas too were navigating their way pass us. As we were busy taking photos of the other gondolas, the occupants in the other gondolas too were busy taking photos of us.

I'd heard lots about Venice and the Gondolas, mainly that "they charge whatever they want." When we went in February half term, during the Venice carnival, I did expected the prices to be high and varying around the city. But no, they charged a standard fee of €80 day time or €100 for night trips (30 minutes long). So sure, that is expensive but at least we knew where we stood with prices. You can either pay it or not, and still enjoy Venice either way. We decided to pay and we don't regret it. The ride was just beautiful, seeing the smaller canals... I recommend you ask to see the smaller canals rather than just ride up and down the Grande Canal the whole time. The money is worth it in my opinion and the man you navigated us was very pleasant, offering information on the local history and also leaving us to enjoy the views. A once in a life time experience. Perfect!

This was our first visit ever to Italy and riding on a gondola has been on my bucket list for a long time. I therefore researched a lot beforehand using Trip Advisor to try and get the best experience. As Luca doesn't work Nov - March, I looked for more reviews and found out about Chiara. I am so glad we found her right next to the bridge in the Jewish Ghetto. She was so lovely and welcoming and took us on a beautiful, peaceful tour of the area telling us all about the history of the surrounding buildings and singing us a traditional Venetian love song. She answered our questions and was simply wonderful. We saw a lot of other gondoliers whilst staying in Venice and can 100% say that we all thought she was the best by far - so many others were smoking/on their phones/not talking/barely going anywhere along the Grand Canal. If you want an authentic experience with someone who genuinely cares that you have a good time, then make the effort to seek out Chiara - you won't regret it!
