This small island is a bit off the usual Venetian path, but it’s worth seeing. Its Santa Maria Assunta church houses impressive mosaics, its bell tower offers great surrounding views—and it’s home to Locanda Cipriani, a well-regarded restaurant and hotel that played host to writing legend Ernest Hemingway .

After the maze of glass shops in Murano and the eye-popping colors & photo marathon/shopping in Burano , I found Torchelllo to be a beautiful park- like sanctuary with endless gardens, pie granite trees heavy with fruit, cats strolling along the roads and a few...More

We stopped on Torcello during our daytrip to Morano and Borano. This is a small quaint little island with an entirely different feel than the others. I highly recommend spending a day visiting all 3 islands.

If you are staying 3 days or more in Venice, you should visit the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello. I wouldn’t say that any of these 3 islands is unmissable but it’s the variety of these 3 that makes a nice trip (7/8 hours...More

We took the 4.5 hour boat tour of Murano, Burano and Torcello. We were allowed only 50 minutes on the island which is really not enough, because the basilica is gorgeous and historical. However, I would guess that it is a half mile walk from...More

Great place to explore and not be inundated with shops and other tourists. Vastly different from Venice and the other islands. Torcello Island has lots of options without the hustle and bustle. Yes there are other tourists around but not the large crowds. We did...More

This island is no longer huge and well-occupied as it was centuries ago. Today you will find a few innkeepers, farmers, and other hardy souls live on the largely abandoned island. Torcello is still worth the visit as there is a magnificent Byzantine-Italian cathedral dating...More

We visited for the first time this year. This is one of the first Venetian islands populated, but is now one of the quieter areas. It is a short walk from the dock to the church - fee payable for entrance. There is also a museum...More

We spent a lovely time on the beautiful, peaceful island of Torcello. Had lunch in a splendid restaurant, went to Attila's chair and I climbed the church tower for spectacular views over the lagoon.

If you have time in Venice I would well recommend this place. From Venice it would take 40/50 mins on water bus (number 12) Spent 2-3 hours walking around the piazza and island, following a path around the bell tower. Entrance to the tower is...More
