Venice Sightseeing Walking Tour with a Local Guide

325 reviews
Packed to the rafters with sights, Venice is a city where time passes fast. Don't waste a second getting lost amid bridges and crowds and instead explore with a guide to discover the highlights and history in minimal time. See the Rialto Bridge and gems, such as the Basilica of Santi Giovanni e Paolo, where many Venetian doges were laid to rest. Choose from a 15-person small-group tour or a private option.

Located next to the Saint Maria dei Frari (church) in Campo San Frari this is another Venice freebie. A beautiful courtyard is accessible. The area of San Polo is quiet and off the main tourist path so it is generally quieter and more relaxed. Access into the small museum was free so another bonus to those visiting Venice on a budget.

We found the State Archives, attached to the very good Saint Maria dei Frari (church) in Campo San Frari but it seems unavailable for the purpose of tourist visitations. From what we understand from out DK Top 10 Venice book, the treasure of documents and historical Venetian records, many moved after being held in the Doge's Palace for centuries, that are held at this location are not openly available for public viewing and visitation. Instead, it seems the famous Venetian State Archives is only available for approved scholarly research and related purposes. At least from what we could tell, it doesn't seem to be something you can freely and openly visit.
