Neighborhood: San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.

We have bought masks from this shop previously and found two more during this trip we "had to have." Since they were large, we decided to have them shipped to us. Fingers crossed they will arrive safe and sound.

They have four shops in Venice and they make a variety of masks. Each artist specializes in a particular type. They are all beautiful and it is hard to choose which ones to buy. They are works of art and we display them as such.

Rented our outfits here for the carnival. Place was a bit hidden but when found it was so worth it! By the time Mr Marega finished with us we looked like truly 700's venetians! Do make sure to to trust him if renting whole outfits as some things individually you might not pick but when he puts them all together it creates magic!

Searching for a mask in Venice is easy, but the perfect mask can be found in this little costume shop on the side of a canal. After trying on masks all day I stopped in Atelier Marega, definitely a higher end costume store. You can immediately tell by the lack of overcrowding of masks and people in the store as you would find in the regular stores near the Rialto or San Marco square. The masks here were much more intricate and expensive than the regular stores. I tried on a white mask that seemed to be molded for my face, it was white and laced with ribbons and beading. It was the most exquisite mask I had ever seen and about 60 euros. I thought I would be able to find one I liked as much at a lesser price. But after a few more hours of searching I knew I was wrong. I had to retrace my steps through the Venetian canals and when I finally found it, much to my disappointment it had closed at 6 and I was leaving that night. I noticed the light on a few doors down from Atelier. There was a small woman painting a mask inside what looked to be a cross between a workshop and mask store. I went inside hoping to find something similar. But to my surprise she said both stores were managed by the same people and that she had made the mask I tried on earlier. She was able to unlock the other store, I was so grateful I bought two masks!

I stumbled upon this store while shopping in Venice. I purchased a gorgeous mask for my daughter's room and she loved it! The detail is amazing and the fabric is stunning! It is a piece of art that we will treasure for many years to come!

We needed masks costumes for the evenings masquerade party on the cruise so we stopped in several places. Many were more expensive or smaller collection, Atelier Marega had a great collection of masks at me level pricing. We bought two masks, a cape and hat for about 250 euros. Great find in a field of so many options.

10/10 would reccomend for authentic handmade, exquisite masks at good prices. Most range from €20-€45 but there are cheaper and more lavish masks available. Cannot reccomend enough!

Our family group of six hand painted our own masks. The store is so beautiful you don't think you could ever paint something that looks half as beautiful. With the help of the owners we were able to paint our individual masks as a reflection of each of us. They were so helpful guiding us through the process. They added the finishing touches to make our masks look beautiful and professional. We had a wonderful time and brought home the most beautiful mask from Venice.

My husband and I both got amazing masks from Atelier Margea. They are all hand made and have so many options that are beautifully crafted. We wanted to buy so many but had to only pick one each. I highly recommend visiting this shop during your stay in Venice, you will get the best quality masks that are real Italian (not a dodgy street mask). The shop keeper (and mask maker) was super friendly and nice, happy to help us and answer any questions we had. Make sure you visit and get yourself an amazing mask!!

I spent three days in the magical Venice, and after seeing numerous shops and stands selling the awesomeness that are carnivàle masks, Atelier Marega is among the best. I found the store on day one but decided to wait *just in case*, though I had a gut feeling that this would be where I purchased my souvenir. The lady who helped me both days was polite and patient, informing me that custom masks could be made if given enough time (something I badly wanted to do but ran out of time to do so). I was further thrilled to actually witness her in the process of making said Venetian masks, as I didn't want to buy something that wasn't made in the city, and thus, fake. The prices were a decent range, depending on size and details (of course). It was extremely difficult to choose only one, but I am overly joyed with my choice. As I was traveling with the mask as a carry on, the lady reassured me through words and demonstration that the mask I chose wasn't all that fragile, and that the feathers easily bounced back into place no matter how much you pressed them down - and then she packaged it quite well, which I appreciated.

Should I ever get a chance to return to the city, I will most definitely be buying from AM again.
