Neighborhood: Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

- MenekagHo Chi Minh City, Vietnam1,932 contributionsEasy and cheap way to access Venice from the airportGood mode of transport connecting the airport terminal and Venice. It was easy to navigate and figure out way around. We had to wait in a queue for over an hour though which was frustrating. But this was around midday so I guess the boats have stopped for lunch. It’s a lovely way to enter Venice but you don’t see much from the boat as we were in the lower deckVisited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 19, 2023
- samuel1 contributionToo small boats for too many passengersWe took the alilaguna from the airport to the city center. A few minutes too late for the 11:50 boat, we thought we had to wait 15 minutes for the next boat. The boats were way too small however, not all waiting passengers could get on, and in the end we had to queu one hour before we could leave. The small boats on a busy line is real bad planning.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 11, 2023
- Debbie SToronto, Canada5 contributionsA few days in Vence before a beautiful cruise.I love Venice. I had been there before, but only for a short cruise stop. We saw so much more this time. It's very crowded; even in October! We stayed in a hotel near the Rialto bridge (which accounted for the crowds). Unfortunately for cruise visitors, you can't dock right in Venice anymore. They have found that this is ruining the canal system. So, you have to go to a place called Chioggia which is over an hour away! Hopefully, the city will find a better spot to dock cruise ships. We spent time in the Jewish Ghetto (the oldest one in the world). Well worth the trip if this is of interest to you. The tour of the Doges Palace however, we found to be a waste of time.Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 14, 2023
- Christine Y1 contributionGreat inexpensive transport from airport to San Marco, but Beware of toilette at San Marco StopThe ride from Marco Polo airport to San Marco was amazingly on time for each stop which was a nice surprise! The view is very nice and scenic although there are patches of water that were rough most likely due to other boats passing by very closely. Nonetheless the ride was very enjoyable. One thing to beware of is the toilet at San Marco stop which is right in front of the dock for the boat. Like in other parts of Europe there is a charge to use the toilet which is €1.5. There are no instructions how to get into the bathroom and there it is a lady standing at the entrance who looked like she worked there but completed ignored all of my questions. I was In a rush to get on the next boat back to the airport which should’ve been obvious. I finally figured that I had to pay the money in the machine but when I tried to insert the money, the lady who ignored me up until then, stopped me, took my money which was 2 euros, and ignored my request for change. On top of that, she let all the Italian people around me go in and out of the toilet first before letting me go through. If you see a big Afro Italian lady at the entrance of the toilet make sure to give her exactly the €1.5 not a euro more as you will not receive any change.Visited August 2024Traveled soloWritten August 31, 2024

Boats have limited capacity. Tickets can only be purchased in advance, without guarantee that they will board you! Upon arrival you only risk to arrive later at the hotel, but upon departure you really risk to miss your flight!
Upon departure I was perfectly on time at the harbour but the boat was already far, it left earlier (or did not approach as it was full). I waited 30 min for the next boat, but it did not approach at all! The captain shouted from far that it was full and told us to wait for the next one. Come on! It is a service to the airport! People risk to miss their flight! We were 11 people at that stop, boats have a capacity of approx 30 people and do 8 stops on the way to the apt, it is easy to calculate how many chances you have that boats are full! We agreed with other people to call a water taxi and share the price. We were lucky to catch our flight! I wrote Alilaguna to complain, suggesting to schedule additional boats on pick dates/hours like Sunday afternoon. They answered me: "We cannot know in advance how many people will get on and off at different stops and it can happen that means of transport are full… as clearly stated in the Conditions of carriage refund is not possible." I guess it is too hard for them to guess that on Sunday late afternoon a lot of people is going to the airport, or maybe they simply like to earn 15EUR per person x 11 passengers = 165 EUR only at one stop without providing them any service and without refund!! A nice LEGAL SCAM!

If you buy a return ticket from Venice airport, it's better that you know in advance that you will never get back to the airport.
Despite being during a pandemic, we couldn't get any ferry back to the airport as they were all full.
We ended up having to pay 140 euros (6 people) to call a boat taxi instead.
And what's worse, is that the company Alilaguna doesn't do refunds and they clearly do nothing for their customers.
AVOID at all costs.

Undertook a great deal of research before leaving the UK to book our boat airport transfers from Marco Polo airport to Saint Angelo docking station on the Grand Canal.
Saved a few euros by prebooking on line at only 50 euros return for 2 people with a suitcase.
So easy to use and clearly signposted at the airport - very comfortable trip however those with poor mobility may struggle as you need to climb down some steep steps into the boat. Only criticism is that the boat windows are high up meaning you can’t see out at the lovely view. Took about an hour because you stop off at every station in the same way a public bus would.
Fabulous way to leave and return to the airport!

Having almost a full day free and staying at an airport hotel I decided to use the Alilaguna service to Venice to do some sightseeing. The lady at the ticket office was extremely helpful and friendly and sadly that’s where the positive story ends. The staff at the boarding area where very rude and were shouting at customers, basics herding is like animals! The boat was dirty and, despite being a sunny day, you could not see through the window! The trip was slow and the seating very uncomfortable. The trip back was just as bad with the added displeasure of the ‘driver’ ramming the boat into every bollard at every stop! I’ve since discovered that the bus from the airport is much quicker and more comfortable.

DON'T use the Alilaguna boat for your journey from Venice to the airport as you might miss your flight. - There's just one boat per hour, seating 20-25 passengers. So chances are small that it's going to stop if your jetty is not at the very start of the line.
DON'T think that this only happens on weekends. We were 8 people (not knowing each other) waiting at San Stae on a quiet Monday afternoon and the boat just passed by with the captain yelling at us to wait for the next one.
DON'T by a return ticket at airport as Alilaguna has a NO REFUND policy. No matter what the guy at the airport tells you.
DON'T take an Alilaguna boat if your in a hurry to get to the city. If the boat is fully booked (first come, first served) you have to wait in line for a full hour.
And DON'T think that Alilaguna is sorry about this. - They just don't care.

My wife and I experienced the four and half hours three island tour (Murano, Torcello, Burano) which includes an on boat-guide description of the main other lagoon landmarks, with stops of 50 minutes for each island (that is enough just to get a taste of the islands and a brief touch of glass masonry in Murano and "merletti“ artisans in Burano). The price of the tour is very cheap, so you may decide to go back without being in a hurry. However, it is a very good way to visit the lagoon gems in a few hours.

The service does his job, bring you in to the centre of Venice by boat. However the way in to Venice from buying tickets to land in our stop took us more than 2 hours and you don't really get views of the city and you are seated in a covered deck. Return trip was quicker. Check where you are going as even the Alilaguna guys at the airport told us that the bus was a better option for us.

Dear Yulfu,
we are sorry that you were disappointed by our service.
We apologise if you had to wait in line for a bit longer than usual but we had to face an unexpected peak that we could have not forecasted in any way.
As for the travel, the boats have precise speed limits that we must respect: we think it's still the best and fastest way to reach Venice centre.
Thank you for choosing Alilaguna,
Best regards

We paid 75 Euro for our family to ride the airport shuttle. Despite getting to our shuttle stop 1.5 hours before we needed to be at the airport some 20 minutes away, not one of the four shuttles that came could accommodate us (or the other irate travelers that queued on the dock). Staff told us more shuttles would be coming that could accommodate, which was not at all true. We were forced to take a private water taxi that I wish we would have just taken in the first place. Splitting that would have been the same cost to us without the aggravation. The Alilaguna staff then refused to refund what we paid. They'd be well advised to allow travelers to reserve seats in advance and up the game on their customer service. In the meantime, unless you're able to chance waiting hours for a space on a shuttle, stay away from this company and its shuttles with a 10 foot pole!

Despite all the poor reviews for this company we actually had a very positive experience. We booked the five hour three island tour. Murano, Burano & Torcello. You can be picked up either from Santa Lucia train station or St Marks Square terminal. The islands were all beautiful, selling glass and lace amongst other venetian wares. The only downside was that each visit is only 35-45 minutes giving you very little time to explore and certainly no time to sit down for lunch in a restaurant. (Luckily we took our own food). All information was given in both Italian and english. The trip across the water was beautiful with fabulous views of St Marks square & the buildings all along the waters edge. So many photo opportunities. Its a big thumbs up from us 👍👍

We asked the woman at the desk for the next boat, she told us, it will be in 30 minutes, what she never said was that she have already sold 100 tickets for a boat with a capacity of 40 people. Avoid to use this service you are going to get angry and lost your money. Worst experience in Venise... I have to put one point cuz not possible to enter 0

Can one arrange a shared service from Venice Train Station to our hotel? (near San Marco Vallaresso stop)
Written October 28, 2019
The alilaguna is a public water taxi service. Have you looked into using the regular public water taxis from the train station to your stop. We took it to from the train station to Madonna d'el orto stop. It was very easy. You can buy tickets at the booth as you come out of the train station. You can purchase a different passes depending on how many times you think you will use the water taxi.

For the 17:45 and 18:15, Wednesdays, orange line alilaguna, are the lines long to get on?
Written September 24, 2019
At the airport in my experience the lines are always long but I have not travelled at those times. If you are travelling to the airport I would go to the starting point by vaporetto if necessary I.e st marks sq and get there early. There may be a queue but the boat will empty at st marks as it’s the terminus. Hope this helps.

Depende do cais onde você vai descer. Mas não se preocupe, o ingresso é o mesmo para todos eles. Na hora de trocar o voucher no guichê, eles te dizem qual a melhor linha e te direcionam para a fila certa.

Buenas noches. Yo he comprado online los traslados Marco Polo-Venecia i/v.
