About
Built in 1745 by architect Masaari, the façade of this church has a classical style, and is noted for the presence of Gian Battista Tiepolo's masterpieces, the "Fortezza e la Pace" and the "Trionfo delle Fede," which is painted on the ceiling.

The area
Address
Neighborhood: Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.

Although this is a rebuild, the original church was the one with which Vivaldi was associated as part of his main job as music master at the orphanage. Nice church used as a concert hall. well worth a look.

This church is smaller than some, but definitely has a wow factor, especially if you attend one of the Vivaldi concerts. My daughter and I attended an evening performance of Vivaldi's Four Seasons in the church and the quality of the musicians and the actual sound was inspiring. This church does have an historical connection to Vivaldi as it was his church and he performed and directed music right in it while living in Venice. Just awesome and a lovely night out. Venice is amazing, but there is nothing like Venice in the evening. Have a lovely dinner by the Grand Canal and pair it with a trip to Chiesa Santa Maria della Pieta!

The previous night, we attended Interpreti Veneziani and were blown away by its quality. By comparison, this was an amateur sideshow. Really, the musicians were not good. The lead violinist was out of tune and made many mistakes. I wanted to come here to experience Vivaldi's music in the Church he composed and conducted in. But I was really disappointed by the poor quality of the musicianship. If you just want to visit Viviald's Church this might be ok for you, but if you are looking for a standout, quality performance, look up Interpreti Veneziani instead.

Whilst sightseeing we came across the Chiesa Di Santa Maria della Pietà. Such a beautiful church which there was no charge to look around. We noticed that that evening there was a performance of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, so we bought tickets. The concert was phenomenal. A fabulous group called I Virtuosi Italiani. Strings plus a harpsichord, all members were amazing but the lead violinist was the most talented I have ever had the pleasure to listen to. Such passion and feeling in his performance. Left me speechless. Best €25 I have ever spent! Thank you

Valvaldi's church and was a founding home for orphans. Truly worth a visit and there is no entry fee, except for a concert. The church has a cool, elegant interior with an oval plan. The resplendent ceiling fresco can't be missed either. Antonio Vivaldi's music is played here often and rightfully so.

We came here for the music as there is a concert on most nights. Tickets are available at the door before the concert start, and it is free sitting. I think the resident musicians performed, and they opened with pieces from Sarasate, and proceeded with playing Vivaldi's Four Seasons. Excellent musicianship, although there were some disruptions from the some in the audience that arrived after the performance started. Good acoustics in the church, by the way.

Wonderful evening spent listening to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and other pieces. Acoustics in this old church were fabulous. Musicians were very good. The only downfall was they never said a word to the audience. A bit of talk about the pieces played would have been informative and interesting.

The church is beautiful and has amazing accoustics! There are concerts here most nights, Thursday- Sunday. Usually these are small quartets and sometimes there are very important musicians that show up! The chapel next door is part of the Venice Biennale Art Exhibition and has wonderful music that plays throughout the exhibition amongst large paintings. Up throught Novemeber 24

The church itself isn't too interesting. But go here for a concert.

For most of his life this was the church that Vivaldi composed music for. The acoustics are excellent and they have good concerts here. We were surprised at how few people showed up for the one we went to. However, the quality of musicians was excellent. Basically, most concerts will include the four seasons plus some rotating selection of other work. It may be a feel a bit kitsch to come here for that reason - but do it anyway - it's worth it.

A part of the Venice Biennial art exhibit was being displayed when we visited. That was better than most as well.
