The Academy Bridge or Italian Ponte dell Accademia is one of the four bridges that bridge the Grand Canal in beautiful Venice. The rich history of the construction of this bridge makes it extremely significant. It connects the Sestiere of San Marco to the Sestiere of Dorsoduro and constitutes the most important urban innovation carried out in Venice in the years of the last Austrian domination (1848-1866). After the vicissitudes with steel, stone, quite by accident and very quickly (in just 37 days), this "temporary" wooden bridge was built, on February 15, 1933. The only wooden bridge in Venice, stretching over the Grand Canal. Not that crowded as Rialto, for eg, but if you want to enjoy it at ease, sunrise or sunset are your best options.

The view of the grand canal is magnificent from this bridge. Also what’s makes it unique is the fact that It’s one of the rare places from where you can enjoy both sun rise and sunset. It is a wooden bridge one of only four bridges to span the Grand Canal in Venice. It crosses near the southern end of the canal, links the sestieri of Dorsoduro and San Marco. One can see a handful of love padlocks attached to the metal hand rails on the bridge. The bridge is located next to the Accademia vaporetto station.…
