It is truly amazing, this Grand Canal. All the beautiful buildings/palazzos resting, it would seem, impossibly on land/water. This is architectural wizardry. Going up/down the canal by vaporetto is awesome, and the amount of history taking place here hurts my head. It is nothing short of spectacular!!

If you are going to get a bus, get on fast and take lots of pictures. Architecture is great and loads you will want to remember. If you walk it, the side streets are like a maze, a fun maze but a maze. Getting lost and looking for gelato or a cold dink is part of the fun of the... More

We have visited Venice ten times, never mind visits as a soldier in Italy so many years ago when it was not what it is now. We have taken water taxi rides around the canals, gondola rides, water bus rides and walked along its banks, in as far as you can do so. It is one of the 'places to... More

Hop on a boot, get a space in the front (usually takes a few stops to get there) and then just stay on the boat for the complete round (or more), especially later in the evening when the lights turn on there is an endless display of boats, buildings, people. Very relaxing and entertaining

Our first experience of Venice was the water bus from the coach station to St Mark's Square. I think it is the perfect way to see the city for the first time. The buildings are amazing, as are all the little canals that feed off it, so many sights and sounds to take in, it can be overwhelming. There were... More

The essence of Venice and a must-visit location for every traveller! It is undoubetedly one of the busier parts of Venice but deservedly so. The view is so iconic it's breathtaking. Stroll, shop and dine waterfront. Visit the famous Rialto Bridge - although it was under construction during our visit which was hugely disappointing. We seemed to travel through Europe... More

Take Vaporetto number 1 (black line) form the railway station to San Marco area (or vice versa). It stops at every dock so the journey takes a long time and you get to see everything. Bargain too.

Just like the name said this is the biggest canal on the city of Venice, you can cross it by boat or using the bridges that they had. I recommend the bridges so you can stop and enjoy the view.
