Overrated. We were Done in a day. Not much to do or see. Too many souvenir shops. Wouldnt go back. Would rather have visited some other spot

Venice, Italy, is known by several names, one of which is the ‘Floating City’. ... Yet, the buildings in Venice were not built directly on the islands. Instead, they were built upon wooden platforms that were supported by wooden stakes driven into the ground.

This was the perfect Venice tour. Karen shows you everything about Venice in 6 hours. We of course always do the touristy things when we travel, but we also love to see how the locals live and find out where they eat, etc. That was the best part of this tour because Karen takes you to places you would never... Karen guided us through Venice giving us history, kept us off the beaten path (which was much appreciated!) pointed out interesting tips and things to see for another visit. We were able to stop for breaks whenever the mood struck, and enjoyed the relaxing tour instead of the crazy herded cruiseline ones. Although we did not have time to tour... More

Karen has given us a fantastic overview of Venice tailored to our interests and personalities. We have seen the Real Venice by someone who lives as a local. We would highly recommend Karen's company and knowledge. We spent six glorious hours today sharing areas most tourists would never find, and avoiding the crowds. Thank you for a great experience. We... More

This was our worst tour of many during our three weeks in Italy in 2014. Mark is great if you enjoy a very dry and uninteresting law professor type showing you around with no enthusiasm for the city. I told them ahead of time the few things we had in mind for our all day tour and said they could... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
