De Spar supermarket, in a beautiful old Theatre in the Cannaregio area of the City. Well worth a visit, even if you don't need to buy any groceries. Beautiful entrance and double staircase lobby, guides you through to the supermarket, where you look up to...More

It was our first day in Venice and hotel was close to the supermarket. We barely walked in and the security device buzz because I was carrying a backpack. The security officer in blue suit was very professional and told us to proceed to shop....More

Where else in the world would you do your food shopping in a place like this? Stunning building that used to be a theatre then a cinema. Now converted sympathetically to a supermarket. It’s not huge but very well stocked. Great deli counter. Excellent wine...More

We dropped by this Despar supermarket for a few quick drinks and snacks. What a surprise! Beautiful Frescos everywhere, on the ceilings, on the walls. This place was previously a theatre. Living among grandeur in everyday life.

I realise there are two review sites for this venue on Tripadvisor. I am reviewing it as a supermarket first - and tourist attraction next. We were genuinely on the hunt for balsamic and anchovies - so went into here. Wow - now that is...More

You should visit this place for both the exceptional food available and the beauty of the building both internally and externally. There is a fantastic range of all types of produce both cooked and uncooked. It brings the term "supermarket" into perspective. Feast you eyes...More

Shopping is a beautiful experience in this supermarket with frescoes on the ceiling and walls. Large selection and reasonable prices. The deli in the back has a great selection of take-out items that we used to put together meals in our rental apartment. Their rotisserie...More

An amazing and beautifully done transformation. It is one of the few supermarjets where your eyes are drawn up to thevwalls and ceiling and you want to take photos! The SPAR is well stocked and very good value also.

This beautiful building is now a Spar supermarket, like no other supermarket I have ever visited. It is beautiful inside too, the lighting is low and they have appeared to have kept the original wall decorations. A fantastic place to shop.

This is an ancient theater, beautiful outside as inside, which has been reconverted into a supermarket, but it's worth a visit even if you won't buy anything. I went it there twice, once for refreshments, and next time I bought the last bottle of authentic...More

Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district)
with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many
transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying
areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand
for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal
bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution,
2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli
Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby
