Context provides an in-depth alternative to traditional tours. We are a network of architects, historians, art historians, and other specialists who organize over 300 different walks in 15 cities around the world. Florence teaches that art does not exist in a vacuum. Here in the churches, palaces, and other Renaissance-era institutions we encounter art in its original setting enveloped by social and political context.

We had a private tour on the Ecology of Venice for a family of 6. Kids are 14, 15, 19, and 22. Lucca is fabulous! He is an expert in his field who can relate content without being dry and was always putting things in a historical context. He kept us all engaged from the 14 yr old to the... More

Our family of 4 including a 5 year old and 8 year old were kept entertained and engaged as we completed our guide Monica's challenges and games and learned about the history of Venice. Monica's passion for Venice is contagious and her stories were captivating for both our children and ourselves. It was a wonderful afternoon.

Have you ever been on one of those walking tours with 40 other people trying to understand a guide through a headset? Did you enjoy it? No? Then, you should book a tour with Context Travel where the maximum group size is six (6). Based on our positive experience with Context Travel in Rome, we booked two tours of Venice.... More

My wife and I only had a day and a half in Venice, so we wanted to make the most of it with our tours. So we set up a tour of St. Mark's to Rialto with Nadia. We totally lucked out, because the other members of our group bailed at the last minute. So it ended up being a... More

I read a history of Venice before my sister and I visited in July and was fascinated by the history of the Republic. I wanted to learn more on the spot and was glad to discover Context Travel's day tours. We did 5 during our week stay in Venice and they were all excellent. The Annotated Dinner with Rachel Erdman... After enjoying our tours last year with Context in Rome, we decided to book three tours in Venice with them. There were six of us traveling together so we opted for the private tours, and loved the flexibility that gave us. We arrived in Venice late afternoon, and did a private boat tour with a docent (Nadia), which I'd highly... More

Context Tours was recommended to me by a friend. When I saw the price, I admit I hesitated but I'm so glad I booked the Lion Hunt tour for my husband, 7 year old son, mother in law and sister in law (and myself, of course). It was well worth the money to have an intelligent, well-spoken guide introduce us... More

I scheduled three tours with Context while in Venice: Daily Life, Splendor and Decadence, and Shylock's Venice. I know that Context has quite a few guides who do tours in Venice, but by sheer coincidence Francesca was my guide for all three tours. What a fantastic experience! She is an absolute wealth of knowledge, and when she starts to speak... More

I have done two tours so far (Wine Tasting and Daily Live in Venice). Both were excellent, led by true experts in the field. The first was a friendly and knowledgeable sommelier, the second had an art history PhD with a specialization in Venice. The tours were detailed and proceeded at a leisurely pace. I never felt rushed, but there... More

Have been to Venice in May 2016, stayed here for almost a week and booked 4 tours with Context Travel. We've known them for a couple of years already, always book a tour with them whenever we travel to a city where Context is present. This time we took: Daily Life of a Renaissance Venice, Venice by Boat, Venice and... More
