Neighborhood: Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.

We were incredibly fortunate to be able to experience an evening at the Palazzo courtesy of Holland America. The most perfect way in which to begin our cruise. It was a magical evening, from our arrival by mortar launch on the Grand Canal, party in the Secret Garden, wonderful food and wine, the most gracious of hostesses and an amazing history lesson about the house, Venice and Italy.. If you can include an evening or afternoon at the Palazzo you will not be disappointed - we felt we were living in a movie

I was on my way to the Museo di Ca'Rezzonico and I stopped there out of curiosity. There is a free entrance and until June 5 it is a Thomas Braida SOLO. It is on 2 levels and they have a lovely little garden in the back. It doesn't take long (30 minutes max) so you can do this one before or after Ca'Rezzonico.

An amazing tour of this palace. The Countess was so warm and friendly. She was very down to earth and a humble lady. I highly recommend this tour.

From the moment we were met at the Ca' Rezzonico vaporetto stop to our departure we loved the experience of this spacious ground floor antique filled one bedroom with its big kitchen and fine appointments. Small things like more than 20 wine glasses of various styles, plenty of kitchen items, big frig, everything worked. We were invited to enjoy the huge garden with resident cat; and the warm reception of Countess Elisabetta. Very central but a little apart from the San Marco crowds just across the canal. Beautiful sheets on a comfortable bed with a/c and quiet. Just perfect!

We had a wonderful time. The Contessa gave us a guided tour of the downstairs and gardens, and upstairs in her living quarters. She told us stories of her childhood and parents. She was very down to earth and gentle spirited. I don't know about just walking in, and visiting, but if you ever get the chance to have lunch with the Contessa and get a tour the Palazzo, do it! I think you will enjoy it.

The first two floors of this private home (palace) are preserved for a private guided tour of the furnishings and fresco paintings, most of which were part of the original estate of the Bernardo family. Our tour was given by the countess, who still lives there, and her cousin. It began in the Italian garden (which was added later) and ended in the dining area where a cocktail and delicious homemade desserts were waiting for us. The countess and her cousin were very warm and welcoming. They made you feel like their personal guests.
It is definitely a hidden treasure of Venice!
