Finding the Roseto di Santa Giustina is a bit of a challenge, especially since it's not a major tourist destination. The secret was taking the first street angling off to the right behind the Basilica di Santa Giustina. Compared to the Orto Botanico (which isn’t far away), it was modest; but it was lovely. The garden was laid out along the city walls, allowing visitors to walk along a portion of the battlements while, literally, stopping to smell the roses. The collection including climbing varieties, antique varieties, modern roses in unusual colors, including one a deep purple. The path sloped gently up to the round Bastione di Santa Giustina. Near the top of the bath were roses named for famous people with some connection to Padova, for example one named for Goethe, the German poet who lived for awhile in Padova.…
