Wine & Food Experience in the Historic Market of Padua

The Market of Padua is in the centre of the city, in a great building called Palazzo della Ragione, built in 1218. The upper floor, called Il Salone, is a great hall, one of the largest medieval halls of the world (entrance ticket included). On the ground floor of the Salone, the so called “Sotto il Salone”, are hosted various delicatessen shops where you can find all sort of local specialties.
The Mini-Tasting Tours are itinerant menus across the shops of Sotto il Salone. You can choose among many different menus according to your preferences. Tasting menu example: 1 Glass of wine, 1 Tasting of Mountain Cottage Cheese, 1 Sorana-Carpaccio (Young Beef carpaccio) with chunks of Parmesan cheese.

Upon confirmation of booking you will receive the menu for choosing your tasting itinerary. You will then receive the voucher by e-mail. With the voucher you can go to the first shop for the tasting and you will receive the ticket to visit the painted room. Then you can move on to the other shops for other tastings. The tour does not include accompanying guides but is autonomous.
During the tasting tour it'll be the local shopkeepers who will tell and explain you about their dishes and about the typical local food and drinks.

Great spot to stroll around and have a Spritz before dinner. Beautiful architecture and plenty of outdoor/indoor seating. Watch the sun go down over one of the most elegant squares in Italy.

Padua has several markets but the one with the largest selection of fruits and vegetables is this one. I enjoyed strolling around the market and taking in the scene during my recent visit in the city. The market is surrounded by interesting buildings with many cafes where you can stop for an espresso or a quick bite. Going to the markets is definitely worthwhile if you visit Padua and I would be sure to include this one. It is a short walk from the tram.

Depending when you arrive to this square, usually there are stalls with fruits, vegetables of local producers. On one side of the square you will find Palazzo della Ragione.

This pre-Roman square is dominated by the impressive medieval Palazzo della Ragione. The sq itself is a irregular rectangle, changing activities during the day. The Palazzo houses a museum and in the morning there's a fruit and vegetable market adjoined by many stalls beneath Palazzos archs selling famous cheese, wine, etc. From dusk, the sq turns in to an open air dining area, where restaurants around have their outdoor seating. Very nice, whenever you come.

Sit down and enjoy a "tramezzino" and an apertif, and watch the world go by in this beautiful piazza. You can visit the museum on the first floor, where there is a wonderful Foucault penduluum
