Wine & Food Experience in the Historic Market of Padua

The Market of Padua is in the centre of the city, in a great building called Palazzo della Ragione, built in 1218. The upper floor, called Il Salone, is a great hall, one of the largest medieval halls of the world (entrance ticket included). On the ground floor of the Salone, the so called “Sotto il Salone”, are hosted various delicatessen shops where you can find all sort of local specialties.
The Mini-Tasting Tours are itinerant menus across the shops of Sotto il Salone. You can choose among many different menus according to your preferences. Tasting menu example: 1 Glass of wine, 1 Tasting of Mountain Cottage Cheese, 1 Sorana-Carpaccio (Young Beef carpaccio) with chunks of Parmesan cheese.

Upon confirmation of booking you will receive the menu for choosing your tasting itinerary. You will then receive the voucher by e-mail. With the voucher you can go to the first shop for the tasting and you will receive the ticket to visit the painted room. Then you can move on to the other shops for other tastings. The tour does not include accompanying guides but is autonomous.
During the tasting tour it'll be the local shopkeepers who will tell and explain you about their dishes and about the typical local food and drinks.

You can walk in, no ticket absolutely free. And what you see it is real wonderful. Frescos in its original color from the middle age.

So many beautiful pictures to gaze at, together with the ancient architecture of the room with its wooden ceiling with beams, and a superb group meal in the crypt.

This is really a little hidden jewel, which unfortunately too few people are aware of! Inside the Scuola della Carita' there is a series of wonderful affreschi. A very nice and interesting tour is offered by one of the people involved in the restoration, usually at the entrance (entrance is free!). Feel free to ask him questions, he will be more then happy to explain in details the story of this place!
