This is the old Jewish area of Padua (the Ghetto). The area is quite small and is located directly south of Piazza delle Erbe. It's a maze of small narrow streets and in the middle of the area is the picturesque little square Piazetta del Ghetto. Today there are a lot of wine bars and cafes in the area but it has a distinct beauty and urges calm from the city noise. Although the area is nice, it is worth giving a thought to the Jews who lived here when the area was cramped and dirty.

I don't know what goes through my mind when I think of Ghetto per say , but I do love this area of town. Filled with eclectic little shops and funky people . I go here a lot because I love the fabric shops where I buy all my fabrics to sew clothes. One needs to really rummage around to find the bargains in the shops by going down stairs or up stairs . There is a very beautiful little stone paved piazza that is a gorgeous haven of peace and tranquility where you can have a coffee or a fruit drink ( even a spritz or prosecco if its the right time of day for you). The ghetto has an interesting history well worth reading about for those interested in that kind of thing . There are some good clothes shops for those interested in one offs and little known but excellent designers. There is a vintage shop selling designer vintage bags , and clothes ..a few old print shops galleries and antique shops. I love looking at the variety of ancient columns used on the houses , as in recycled from roman times , but used in maybe the 16 th century ... its a fascinating place that makes you wish walls could talk when you are there . I can't help being fascinated by the area.

The museum has an excellent slide display that highlights the life of the Jewish community of Padova throughout the centuries. I found it very informative. Part of the museum visit also includes a guided tour of the neighborhood and access to the 17th-century synagogue that is still in use. Our guide was very informative.

Strolling in the narrow streets of the old Jewish ghetto, one cannot skip imagining how the place really looked like for many hundred years when it was inhabited by prosperous Jewish community, most of which was terminated in the Shoah (holocaust).

The narrow streets of this area were interesting and full of charm. It was nice to wander as the streets provided shade from the sun and they also added a historial interest to the walk

I loved my visit to Podova - so easy to walk and tram around, with great attractions like the Ghetto Ebraico - i just loved strolling this quite city. Great food too! Easy train to Venice - I highly recommend this over staying in Venice!

The highlight of the ghetto area is the Italian Synagogue, which can be visited on application to the museum.

I have been wanting to visit the Jewish Ghetto in Venice for many years, but because it is a little out of the way from the "highlights" of Venice, I had never been there. One People Mover and vaporetta later, I was standing in the courtyard of the ghetto. There are four synagogues there, although only two are in use: one in the spring and summer and one in the fall and winter. The two unused synagogues and the "canton" synagogue are part of a tour provided by the Jewish Museum there in the courtyard. It connects to the two unused synagogues, and the tour allows you to enter both and take non-flash pictures. It costs 12 euros and runs every hour. There are many Kosher restaurants in the area and shops that sell all kinds of Jewish merchandise. You can even get a Kosher snack in the museum lobby. I was very pleased I went.
