We stayed in Courmayeur for two nights on the TMB. It offered much more than I had expected. Fantastic location amount the large mountains. Now one of my favorite towns in the Alps. Lost of restaurants, hotels, shops and cafes in the pedestrian zone.

If you're in Courmayeur, HIKE. Then the next day, HIKE some more. It's gorgeous. The trails are well groomed. Yes, some are steep but not undoable. And we didn't use poles. We did have good hiking boots which I recommend. We hiked to Rifugio Elisabetta with a detour to Lago Combal. I will never forget it as long as I live. Beautiful.

A really great and easy path all the way to the base of the Logo Miage (worth a detour up the scree) and a view of teh snout of teh glacier. Be wary teh weather can change rapidly and it is a longer round trip that you might think form the map.

If you like hiking provide yourself with a very good map. Signposts are missing or wrong or hidden. The signpost for Monzino hut i.e. simply doesn't exist. And the same for many others paths

We travelled through the Val Veny by car and were delighted with the fabulous views. For people wanting to hike, it is paradise. There are two very nice camp sites along the way, where it is possible to rent small chalets if you don't wish to camp. Two restaurants are on-site and one has a small grocery shop. Another restaurant can be found at the end of the valley. All staff in these establishments are very welcoming.

Known as a Summer camping and hiking paradise, I was a little cautious about hiking through the valley to Lac de Miage.

Due to work being done on the road we had to leave the car below the church at Notre Dame de Gxxxx and walk the rest of the way.

We hit snow at 1440metres, but it simply added to a simply stunning day out. Around 24km round trip, around 800metres of generally, gentle ascent. Other than two other hikers the valley was ours, beautiful , Autumnal colours, generally clear skies. Don't try it in poor weather.

Didn't really want to share, wanted to keep it a secret!

Val veny is a place where you have to go early in the morning. First of all to se the sun shine on the mount blanc side of the valley. Second to get a parkkingplace in the end of the road. After parking you can walk all the way to col de la seigne 2500 m.5 hours tour retour. On the way you pass refugio elisabetta wher you can eat and drink veery good with a beatiful wiev. But do not stop there for ever. Continue into the valley or try to enter the peak behind the refugio. The area here is also very good for randonnee in the winter. Try this and you will not regret.

We walked the Val Veny because of threatening thunderstorms.
The main TMB trail takes a path across the peaks with amazing views of Mt Blanc and this is a tarmac road alternative.
Walking on tarmac and downhill is unpleasant.
It is long and crowded with cars and families taking walks especially on weekend.
You can take a bus from village 90 minutes walk from junction with TMB, but in Sept this requires a reservation, which requires a phone call , which requires a phone set up for Italy-none of which we had available to us. We walked and walked and walked on an increasingly winding road with limited shoulder and one lane traffic! At 4 hours or so we gave up and flagged down the bus for last mile into Courmayeur.
It was the most disappointing part of the entire TMB which is stunning.
I am so sorry we made this decision. Avoid it if you can.

Good ski runs amongst pretty wooded slopes, with fabulous mountain views of Mt Blanc, stunning of the Peuterey Ridge and aiguilles. In summer, plenty of walking trails, via ferrata, and mountain huts for refreshments.
