We had a great day snowshoeing in Courmayeur. We were lucky with the weather, it was sunny and not windy. The next few days were cloudy/snowing/windy.

First thing in the morning, we visited the office in city centre to pick up equipment (snowshoes and poles for me, my friend had all his own equipment). Afterwards our guide Luca took us to the Skyway lift in his car. We met the rest of the group in the cafe at the entrance of the lift. We took the rotating gondola together and when we reached the top, we descended down some steps before putting on our snowshoes. Everyone is tied to each other with a rope and we walked in a line.

For the next 4 hours we were hiking in the glacier, mostly flat terrain with one small uphill and one real uphill climb. The group reached its max capacity of 8 people (4 groups of 2, half the group speak Italian and half speak English). The views were breathtaking, it was just so gorgeous. There were plenty of mini breaks and photo opportunities and our guide explained the different peaks/their names.

Small warning though, even though the walks may be mostly flat, and at times one may feel "why are we moving so slowly?" - trust your guide. Combination of the high altitude (3500m) and the soft snow = early muscle fatigue. My hamstrings were so sore the following day. It didn't help that after we finished the tour around 2-3pm we squeezed in a cheeky hour of snowboarding in Courmayeur!

If I could make a small suggestion though, one member of the group was not as fit as the others and were struggling with the pace/altitude. Later on he looked tired and started to struggle with the equipment. However, he was in the back half of the group and at times it was difficult to communicate to the group leader/guide. I think once this was identified, we should have rearranged the group and placed him at the front right behind the guide. As it is quite a large group it would also be good to use some hand signal to indicate when we are stopping, or turning left or right. Being at the very back, I could feel the "domino effect" of the group uncertainty, i.e. sometimes I felt we were slowing down (rope getting slacked and becomes tangled among our snowshoes) before picking up the pace and then abruptly coming to a full stop. Hand signal would clear this confusion!

I booked this day as a Christmas present for my two teenage sons. Francesca was very helpful explaining the different options available to us and helping us to select the best option for us. On the day we met Rudy, our guide and were kitted out with avalanche equipment and given a brief demo of how to use it. Rudy did a great job selecting routes and pointing out different features of the mountains around us.
The route was challenging but definitely worth it with a mix of terrain and activity. There was quite a lot of scooting for the snowboarder in our party but this did not detract from the day. Would definitely recommend.

My 17-year-old daughter and I had a nice day snowshoeing with Societa Guide Alpine Courmayeur. The scenery was absolutely stunning. We worked hard and stayed nice and warm even though it was a cold, windy day. The boots and equipment were great.
The booking process was easy. Francesca was very nice and helpful. Our guide, Max, was also friendly and he was helpful with equipment. But he seemed seemed a bit impatient with us. He seemed to get frustrated with my daughter for taking off her snowshoes in front of the hut (our destination) instead of at the entrance to the hut. Maybe there was a reason for this and we just didn't understand given the language difference, but I felt badly that we had done something wrong. He also did not give any instruction about how to walk in snowshoes, in any language (two in our group were Italian, one was Spanish, and two were American). Also know that this is a tough trip if you are older or not in great shape. I am the former (53) and in good shape, but the steep descent from the hut was very hard for me. You walk for about 2 - 2.5 hours on flat terrain (that was easy) and then about 2 - 2.5 hours straight up and then straight down hill (a good challenge, but not easy). I do recommend this group and this outing, but as I said to my daughter, "I really enjoyed the day, but not every moment of the day".

Had a ski guide (Francesco) for two days and he was terrific. We were taken to the Toula Glacier and Vallee Blanche on the first day and then had a day at La Thuile to learn to ski tour. Francesco organised transport and showed us the most amazing places. Absolutely fantastic two days. Won't forget them.

We got one of those rare days with clear blue skies and good snow conditions and on top of that a very skilled and social guide. This was a day to remember and we will engage the guide for other off piste skiing next time in Courmayeur.
