We went on a short family hike starting on the parking "perreres" which also offers an extraordinarily pittoresque and well equipped picnic area.

Upon arriving at Lago Blu we enjoyed the superb view of the Matterhorn. The lake itself is very cold due to the glacier water, so swimming in it is not really an Option.
We can recommend hiking there nevertheless! The lake is also easily accessible by car with a small parking area nearby.

Sunset hike around the lake. Sunset being very late, there was no problem with starting the hike at 8 pm. The color was fantastic. Cows with bells ringing in the fields of flowers, trout clearly visible swimming around in the lake. Magnificent.

We visited in winter so the lake was covered in snow , but it's a stunning location and is a definite must do if your in the area , parking is at the side of the road , entry is free and this is the best place to photograph the Matterhorn , good walking boots recommended take a picnic and your set for the day .

I will preface this review by first stating that I travelled almost 2 hours to see Lago Blu. This may have influenced my feelings about it.

Pros:

- The colour of the water really is blue/green. It is very pleasant to look at
- The wildlife in the pond is a nice touch
- Nice views of the mountains in the background, plus you can hike a bit higher for better views

Cons:

- I have seen other lakes before and according to my understanding, this is more of a large pond than a lake. Don't be fooled by the pictures online
- The 'lake' is literally off the main road, feels a bit artificial
- Once you have taken the 6 minutes to walk around the lake, there is nothing else to do unless you want to sit and relax

Conclusion:

If I was staying at a nearby hotel, I would definitely visit, but even then only for an hour or so. If you are travelling for longer than 45 mins to see this 'lake' I really advise you to reconsider. The only saving grace about this place is he colour and that there are hiking trails in the same place that give spectacular views.

Very small lake, overcrowded. it still is interesting for families as it's a short and easy walk from the town.

there are many more interesting places to go and see

Unless this pic is on your list as a 'must have' (don't know why it would be) do not go lout of your way. Our hotel was right across the street, so a sunrise shot was easy to capture prior to bfast.

A quick stop on the way to Cervinia. Great opportunity for beautiful photos. Not a hike, so easy for all fitness levels.

The Matterhorn was completely covered in clouds so no nice reflection in the lake for us. An easy walk that we did just 3 days ago. Remember Breuil- Cervinia is absolutely dead from Sep 10th until the last week of October, look like a ghost town. I would not visit during that time if you have a choice. Much better areas to explore nearby.

This is such a pretty area with breath-taking views. Easy walk from Breuil-Cervinia, but always wear sensible walking shoes for this part of the world.
