The eastern gate into Roman Aosta (which still has impressively complete roman walls).
This gate has been incorporated into a tower and is at the end of the medieval street. Takes about 5 minutes to visit.
The arch is an entrance to the old part of the town of Aosta. It has been wonderfully preserved, one of the reasons being that it has been covered by a roof. This makes it look quite unusual, but the structure has remained almost intact....More
A well laid out and presented, small, part of the roman remains.
There were some English translations. The footbridge over the
display gave it presence, and as I was not expecting it amongst all the shops, it was a pleasant interlude.
This place screams history.
Take your time reading all the different plaques and information boards to really get an understanding of how old and important these doors were.. you can see the walls still standing across the town
