Museo Nazionale Storico degli Alpini - New Alpine Corps Museum in the Tower
Jul 2019 • Solo
This sparkling new museum opened in the Torre Vanga last year . The former museum at Doss Trento , Via Brescia is being revamped and of course Tourist Office Maps haven't been updated to show this new location which is easy to find in the centre.
Entrance is free and the welcome is warm.
The story of the elite Italian Alpine Corps from formation in 1872 to present day is all here to be discovered.
Descriptors are in Italian but some staff know English and can help. To be honest , many of the objects speak for themselves.
Apart from uniforms, artillery, paintings and medals, the personal objects on display are very emotive.
The section devoted to the troops' trusty friend, the mule, 'un amico di famiglia' shows not just the hardships of war but the lighter side of this friendship between man and beast.
Kids will enjoy it too, especially the chance to wear the famous 'cappello' hat.
Great Museum. Great tribute to 'The Black Feathers'
Super staff .

Free museum
May 2019 • Friends
This is a nice free museum with information on Italian Alpine Troops dating from the 19 century to today. Unfortunately all printed material is in Italian ( my loss as I do not understand it). It was still a worthwhile visit for me. There are uniforms and weapons displayed on 3 floors. The opening hours are 9am to 4pm closed for lunch 12 noon for one hour. The inside of the tower itself is worth a look round as parts date back to the 13 century built on even older foundations. Look out for the guide (Silvio) who was very helpful considering we did not know each other’s mother tongue.

Possibly interesting – but nothing was in English
Sep 2018 • Couples
We gained free entry by virtue of our Trentino card, which our hotel in Trento (the NH Trento) had given us free of charge, and we called in only because we were passing by on the way to the train station.

We were glad that we hadn’t paid to enter the museum, because it would have been a waste of time as non-Italian speakers. Nothing was in English, so we were limited simply to meandering briefly around looking at weapons, life-sized models of soldiers in various uniforms, and war-related photographs.

This museum may well be of interest to people who understand Italian but, if you don’t, then you may as well give it a miss.
