We spent 2-3 hours touring this historic castle and learned so much. The tour was fantastic and the wine tasting was great. And, after our tour, they gave each couple a bottle of wine! This is a must-do for anyone staying in Merano!

We found the museum collection of old wine-making implements and the medieval wine cellar, still in use today, very impressive. Our host in the museum store made our wine tasting particularly interesting and pleasant. Unlike Napa wineries in California, which may give you crackers or bread sticks, Meretz actually serves speck with their wine samples. Well done!

5 euros for the museum which was very interesting. We then tasted three lovely wines which the lady served with delicious Speck and Schuettelbrot.

We did not do the tour inside the castle. We just went to the tasting room and had a marvelous time sampling their wine and talking to the staff. Such friendly and knowledgeable people and the wines were so good. We are wine snobs and can truly say we found many wines we liked at very reasonable prices! If you are looking for a relaxing time one afternoon, walk over to this castle and enjoy the beauty, wine and hospitality!

We had a wonderful time at Castello Rametz! The staff and owner were extremely hospitable and made us feel right at home. The museum was very informative and it was a great experience getting to wander around freely through the exhibits and the wine cellar. It’s really a beautiful winery and close to the city center. I would highly recommend visiting this winery if you will be in Merano.

Walking in the friendly wine expert asked me whether I'd like to speak Italian or German. English? I asked with a big smile, "no English," he replied with a more friendly smile. So, I opted to rely on high school French and wine knowledge and go with Italian. We were talked through the wines and despite a language barrier he could read our obvious enthusiasm for the wine and brought out some special glasses followed by big wines not on the tasting list. If you don't speak Italian or German just stay relaxed, be friendly, share your enthusiasm and enjoy the wine and the atmosphere.

On a lovely August afternoon we booked our winery tour. 12/2 ratio of German speaking tourists to English speaking; luckily our guide "M" was very knowledgeable of it's history.
He has presented the tour in a very entertaining way. Explored the vine yard a bit, production area, then explored it's history in the caves bellow chateau.
We have opted for an indoor tasting since it was 30 + Celsius so the outside lovely patio was a bit too hot. Choose your favourite, mine was 2 out of 5. Their speck is out of this world! Their on-site shop offers their chateau wines and other local delicacies worth

This place is amazingly beautiful. We went with a tour group of approx. 10 people. When we arrived, we were greeted by a young man that guided us to the vineyards and through the winery. We then had a tasting, which was good but not to my wine preference. The only complaint was that we seemed rushed out of the tasting. We sat for about 15 minutes, then were ushered out to the shop.
