We tried the Thermal bath twice during our stay in Merano. In COVID times they say that the will not let in more than 380 people. You need to register on their website to book a time (on rainy days the slots run out quite fast). You go to the counter to pay, but they do not check the registration. On rainy days you get a 3h ticket. The time starts when you enter to the right of the reception. You can check the time in the shower room by putting band on a device. They give you 15 min extra vs the 3 hours. When you enter you can lock your valuables in a safe (you need 1 or 2 Euro coin). Next step is to enter in the orange doors, that you can lock, then exit on the other side of the closet and put your cloths in a locker. The place inside is very large with about 10 pools and there is also pools outside. The temperature in the pools varies from 30 to 37C. All very nice. We spent the 3 hours with our kids. There is rule of no jumping and no snorkels. The kids can have goggles on. We went on a half sunny day, so it was not crowded.

We only visited the sauna part and our experience was average. The outdoor sauna is superb but the 2 small ones inside as well as the relaxation zones are not sufficient to accommodate the visitors allowed in. Of course the present hygiene restrictions do not help. Outdoor main pool was closed when we visited. Lots of warning at entrance but distancing im possible to maintain inside. This is quite a nice and modern spa although far from exceptional. We'd recommend to visit on the most quiet hours or when the weather is sunny, as the outside park is quite welcoming.

Wonderful kind attention by a lifeguard, who saw that I was struggling to.find a chair at a very busy time. I am somewhat disabled, and it is a large place, and I was so afraid of falling. This lovely young man came immediately to help me and even made a phone call to a colleague to locate a lounge chair. It is a large locker room, and a little walk to the sauna, but inside there are places to rest and many choices. The hay sauna is super refreshing. I will go back. Grazie!!!

I give this Terme a 1 star only for those 2 thermal pools inside, otherwise my experience was rather unpleasant. I went into Sauna area in the swimming shorts and covered them with towel. Entered the sauna and after 1 minute some "Italian local bald Jason Statham" started talking to me in his poor italian/English and wanting something from me. Then a local guest explained that their way of doing sauna is a nudist way (which I'm not accustomed to and rather uncomfortable with, I'm Finnish myself).
So I asked him "the bald guy" to show where it is written in rules that I'm obliged to be nude to enter the sauna. He showed me a sentence that they had no "textile rule". However, a towel is in fact a textile and it doesn't make any sense to me at all. In the end he told me that "sauna is not for me". Does it sound like a normal behaviour towards your visitors to you? For me it most certainly does not. I left the premises feeling quite stressed with his behaviour and hostile attitude towards me, so I do not recommend that to anybody who is not comfortable of being nude among other people as it seems you are either obliged to go nude or restricted from using it without proper explanation and absolutely disgraceful attitude towards you during the whole thing. Funny thing is that among their rules listed is that you have to do sauna relaxed and unstressed 😂👏🏼, I most certainly left that place not even remotely relaxed.

Dear guest,
thank you for your review. I am very sorry to read that you haven't enjoyed our sauna area. It is true that it is textile free, meaning that it's not allowed to wear a bathing suit, but you can cover yourself at any moment with a towel. Bathing suits are not allowed for hygenic reasons, which is very common in northern saunas.
Kind regards from Merano

When asking about services/classes/bookings every staff member gives you different information. Waiting at the desk to sign in for a class with 2 staff member next to it and talking to each other but not having time to help/ask if I need anything. Never seen a manager around or a person who seems to know or have the experience to run a facility like this.

After a tiring hike, going to the Terme was the best decision we made. We were expecting it to be crowded since it was Sunday but it wasn’t so much. It was very relaxing, comfortable and a great experience overall. Especially swimming outside when it was 1 degrees was an amazing feeling. You can rent towels but I recommend to bring your swimsuit and slippers yourself.

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Terme Merano. As a childless adult, the private adult only rest areas on the third floor were very welcome. The pools themselves are lovely, I couldn’t believe the warmer outdoor pool had music playing if you went underwater to listen!
I found the staff to be very welcoming and the prices are justified for the experience. I would recommend renting the robes and the towels provided.
One thing I found strange as a Canadian traveller was the joint change rooms, I’m used to having a women’s a men’s change area but the terme had them combined. It wasn’t a bad thing as there were private locking stalls to change but it was definitely new for me!
Just a heads up, make sure you keep track of the time as you don’t want to be charged extra for your visit.
I visited in the winter which was fabulous with the surrounding snow covered Alps. I would love to come back in the summer one day.

I like the Terme, particularly the sauna area. Everything is spotless, plenty of Covid preventive measures etc.
Having said that, I was shocked that there is no foot spray which I would deem normal for a spa. Although, with all due respect, I’m not sure it’s appropriate to have a ladies only day.
Furthermore this is not mentioned prior to entering the spa which is annoying.

On Wednesday night, I went to the 100 degree sauna room at 21.00, however the ‘Aufguss’ process had started already. Instead of saying we are not allowing anymore people into the room, the sauna master let me in, but at the same time accused me of being late in a very insulting manner in front of the other users! This continued for few minutes, which caused unnecessary embarrassment even after repeated apologies from me. Other guests felt the same as me because they came to me after the sauna and offered sympathy for the bad behavior of the sauna master. I hope this is not the standard way of treating the sauna guests, particularly as they pay extra money over the Christmas period!!!

Multiple pools, indoors and out, salt and chlorine waters, beautiful outdoor environment! the sauna area is nude and unusual for americans - it is unisex! the rest is family friendly and highly recommended.
