- Marco Ronchi 2Carpi, Italy805 contributionsVisited this center for the first time in the Christmas period, with the presence of the traditional Christmas market. I was amazed by the city center for its porches, the businesses that are not the usual franchise brands and for the cleanliness present, so much so that it was difficult to identify the x waste baskets. Convenient free parking a few steps from the center and characteristic its achievement through the underground passage with cars with a final roundabout, very particular. It certainly deserves to be reviewed even in the summer.Visited December 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten December 27, 2024
- BeNaGermany1,412 contributionsMerano has a lot to offer - beautiful churches, wonderful gardens and parks, excellent food and wines, many beautiful small and narrow streets (arbor alley), great hiking trails, promenades, thermal baths, many small shops, etc. We were there a few days on the first weekend of Advent because of the Merano Christmas market. Very nice cottages with many delicacies and handmade goods (no standard porridge). But the city is very crowded this weekend. Many day tourists who come by bus. Best to visit Merano during the week and outside the holidays.... Without car!!!! Public transport is excellent and there is a ticket for several days or the guest card from the property is also valid for public transport. Merano is unfortunately not barrier-free (historic cobblestones) good footwear is advisable.Visited December 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten December 1, 2024
- StopftineBerlin, Germany211 contributionsA very nice city. In the city center itself with personally much too crowded and busy, so you don’t really have room to sit down or look in peace through the shops.😅 but a bit further along the water and at the beautiful bridge it is much quieter and nicer. There is really delicious ice cream and wonderful nature. There it is worth a walk. 🥰Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 13, 2024
- Silvia 70Castelfranco Emilia, Italy173 contributionsBeautiful village , very well organized, pleasant walks along the downtown arcades with nice shops. The riverside is also worth seeing. In the centre of Merano there are also thermal baths with a large underground car park, for a fee that also serves to go to the centre.Visited December 2024Traveled with friendsWritten December 10, 2024
- Ron SNew York City, New York6,115 contributionsThe Centro Storico is rather a large area. I don't think it's possible to view it entirely even in a week. The center is ZTL (zona traffico limitado) so you have to park your car nearby even though the GPS cheerfully invites you to get right in. Driving in Merano is insane as it's very easy to miss your turn and the streets are narrow and winding.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 29, 2024
- onipnilneikIbiza, Spain101 contributionsI haven't been to Merano in a long time. Once you finally arrive in Merano, you experience a beautiful little town with river, churches, old town and many shops and restaurants. If you take some time, you will find in the side streets somewhat quieter locations “more normal” places, all of which can good coffee. We're in Italy.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 19, 2024
- bito66Isili, Italy709 contributionsWe visited this charming town during our holiday in the Vinschgau Valley, a beautiful and characteristic old town. Strolling among the shops that sprout from the beautiful arcades and visiting the hundreds of stalls that branch off from the central station to the heart of Merano the beautiful Duomo. Easy possibility of paying public parking. Very clean and well-kept town with many typical restaurants and bars of all kinds.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 26, 2024
- GianlucaGuarnaMilan, Italy70 contributionsIt took us 35 minutes to get to the centre by car with light traffic. The automotive viability is bad. Fortunately this compensates for the beauty of the centre and the characteristic Christmas markets. In the center there is also a very well-stocked children's playground.Visited January 2025Traveled with familyWritten January 4, 2025

I tried to get closer by car to the center of Merano to see the Mamming museum and I had great difficulties. Directions are scarce, Google Maps makes absurd laps, parking is not clear how far we are from the center. We finally gave up. You should put yourself in the shoes of a vacationer and organize simpler and more friendly signage.

The city is enchanting both from a historical and tourist-landscape point of view and can be easily visited on foot, with good shoes. The shops selling typical products are absolutely worth visiting and the prices do not appear out of the norm. Extreme kindness in all places and many special objects to buy for all budgets. Easy possibility of public parking even near the city center. Absolute and rigorous cleaning of streets and public places. Great bars and restaurants.

Scandalous is the right adjective to define Merano
Despite insisting in the ITALIAN territory, everyone speaks German and terrible Italian, every road sign is first in German if not exclusively in German!
I find that shameful.
They feel German/Austrian but the city is not as tidy or clean as German standards.
They do not respect the speed limits, they run and they are all grumpy and arrogant.
I do not respect the rules on displaying prices in windows;
Very rare if not non-existent electric car charging stations
The "Most Civilized North" is not here!
The only positive experience indeed excellent was the FORST brewery.
X the rest, all dear, along the river that runs along the spa had the courage to ask us 2.60 € for a coffee, madness. It does not cost so in Florence at Piazza della Signoria, nor in Naples at Gambribus. But who do they think they are
Let them be very disappointed.
We will never return!!!

I visited Merano with my wife and daughter on a Friday in July and loved it. Delightful town, with a very nice historic center and a large pedestrian area where you can walk and enjoy the many bars, restaurants, craft shops and really nice local products. There is also an excellent spa centre, the cathedral and various play areas for children

Merano is a charming little down to stroll around with some interesting shops and restaurants. in many ways it seems more Italian than the Germanic-feeling nearby Bolzano. If you want to have a look at the historic centre there's an excellent carpark just across the river where you can use a footbridge to gain access.

We spent an afternoon in Meran and most of the time in the well conserved city center.
It is not as large as Bozen’s one but also with many interesting buildings and historical sites.

First time in Merano at the end of the summer, and it was truly enlightening. A small wedding favor town with a retro charm in perfect late Austrian Empire style. To see and review.

Wow!!! This is the beautiful little town of Merano. Here we are in Trentino Alto Adige, in the north east of the Italian peninsula. A magic Christmas time.

Originally just a lunch stop for my wife and I whilst travelling through Northern Italy but soon became an extended visit! My wife discovered the shopping strip and was entranced by the unique range of fashion items available ....... my Bad!!
Pros: Architectural menagerie, lovely scenery down by the Passer River, great range of pasticcerias, even walking (albeit on cobbles) and for us wonderful weather! Cons: obviously the shopping took its toll on the travel budget!!
More than just a lunch stop. For us Merano is probably one of those rare little finds that will be added to a future itinerary!!

Qual'è l'aeroporto più vicino per raggiungere Merano? A livello di costi come conviene raggiungere Merano dall'aeroporto? In taxi?
Written August 21, 2018

Grazie!
